Religiously unaffiliated subjects had significantly more lifetime suicide attempts and more first-degree relatives who committed suicide than subjects who endorsed a religious affiliation. Unaffiliated subjects were younger, less often married, less often had children, and had less contact with family members. Furthermore, subjects with no religious affiliation perceived fewer reasons for living, particularly fewer moral objections to suicide. In terms of clinical characteristics, religiously unaffiliated subjects had more lifetime impulsivity, aggression, and past substance use disorder. - Religious Affiliation and Suicide Attempt, American Journal of Psychiatry, December, 2004

How are you proposing to reach out and help these lost souls OP?

Or is your goal to simply gloat and even rejoice in this news?

I only have a 9th grade education maybe that is why I can't understand what your point is.
It is not "my" point. It is a scientific finding by the psychiatrists of America that atheists are more miserable, more depressed, more suicidal than Christians or Jews, who make up the majority of Americans.

Famous and wealthy author, Ernest Hemingway, wrote, "Every thinking man is an atheist." He then married and divorced three times, and put his shotgun in his mouth in the house with his fourth wife and pulled the trigger. Does that sound like the actions of a "thinking man"?

I don't believe good is all good, all powerful.

But... on most days I am a cheerful half agnostic.

ChemEngineer has an opinion, and that is all it is.

Ok. And? While generally true that religious people are happier, that is certainly not any evidence that any religion is true.

Correlation does not imply causation

Which leads to misery, truth or evil?
Are the millions of men around the world in prisons there because they pursued truth or because they pursued evil? How many men have been released from prison and shouted, "I'm free at last. I've learned that atheism is the truth and the way and I will follow atheism forever!"

Not one. What you consider to be "true" leads to depression, suicide, misery, fewer offspring, and myriad other problems. Do you really want to continue down that long, miserable road, when there is a far better alternative?

A 10-year study by the Department of Psychiatry, College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University revealed that the offspring of Protestant and Catholic parents were 76% less likely to experience episodes of major depression than the offspring of non-religious parents. The survey notes that Individuals with no religious affiliation are at greater risk for depressive symptoms and disorder... “People involved in their faith communities may be at reduced risk for depression, and private religious activities and beliefs are not strongly related to risk for depression".

in the case of the desert religions ...

the misery they shed to others, persecution and victimization of the innocent is their source for happiness.

"One hundred years from my day, there will not be a Bible on earth except one that is looked upon by an antiquarian curiosity-seeker.” - Voltaire, in 1776 (1694-1778)

America's Founding Fathers dated our Declaration of Independence in 1776, citing "Nature's God". Who do you believe, Voltaire or Founding Fathers?

I am probably animistic more than shamanistic.

I have no problem with Jesus.

I do with those who proclaim but not know him.

Darwinian evolution has been the major producer of atheists for over 100 years. It is unscientific and monumentally destructive, but biologists the world over keep "teaching" its nonsense because they cannot stand to admit that they were wrong, very wrong.

bigots find ways to distort facts to a greater degree for success than is the simple truth they try and obscure.

Darwinian evolution filled in a major God-of-the-gaps hole but it was hardly the only one. Every scientific advance showed a new natural cause, replacing a divine one. They also highlighted the problems with accepting the Gospels as literally true.

That is exactly why it took so long for evolution by natural selection to be accepted.

Atheism is the unwarranted delusion of intellectual grandeur.

It is the apex of the Dunning-Kruger Effect.
