The reason the hotdogs were "humped" between the electrodes was that the current needed resistance to electrocute the dogs quicker.

They were very pricey luxury/novelty items for the wealthy in the 60s and 70s. Didn't really become widespread until the very late 70s and early 80s.

The first radar range from amana was $450 ish in like 1967. That well over $4K adjusted for inflation.

In the 70s they were about that in their current money and adjusted for inflation would be near $5k.

Yep, mom worked overtime to buy one on lay-a-way.

It was built to last....I tossed it when I was cleaning out the house after mom died in '24. It still worked just fine after near 60 years!
