Congress clears omnibus spending bill averting shutdown - CNNPolitics.com

In a surprise, the House overwhelmingly approved the measure in a 316-113 vote. (Actually, only 150 Republicans voted yea. The majority that passed it were Democrats.)

Obama called Ryan after the vote to thank him "for helping government work," the speaker said. The president also invited Ryan to join him for a meal at the White House in the new year. (See? Obama invited him to lunch. Obama tries to work with Republicans but the white ones hate him to much.)

there are still things in it worth supporting, such as a health program for 9/11 first responders (ooh, that had to hurt the 'let him die' Republicans.)

But the speaker argued that in divided government, there was a limit to what Democrats could accept and said it contained "some big wins for the country, whether it's lifting the oil export ban, increasing military spending or renewing health care for the 9/11 first responders." (Republicans love two of those three. Lifting the export ban they hope will raise the cost of gas and all the fracking will devastate the country. Military spending? Oh yea, it's going to take a huge navy and lots of giant planes to hunt down 30,000 guerrilla fighters hiding behind rocks in their own country. But they are bummed about health care for first responders. Funny how they want those people to rely on a health care program Republicans want to end.)

---------------------------------

So is there a conspiracy here? Why would Republicans want to pass a spending bill that will take us into next September? They just don't let an opportunity like this go. There has to be a reason. Anyone?

God Damn Rderp they're only 246 republicans so let's do real math

Easy Presidential Election 2016 .....lol I think that the congress is catching on that we Americans are really really pissed about their lack of work while bucking heads. Glad to see Obama working with Ryan together.

Good job Ryan is all I have to say. Americans are sick and tired of being threatened by the loony right on issues of funding for our roads, science institutions and high standards!

Ryan is proving to be a reasonable leader. Thank you Ryan!!!!

I was nervous at first when he stepped in, but I think that he put up some healthy boundaries to get things done.
Hopefully we see a better unity in Congress.

No, there's a General Election coming next November.

And it's never too early in American politics to start worrying about an upcoming GE.

Republicans know they'll likely lose the Senate next year, they know winning the WH will be tough, and although they'll likely hold the House they could still lose seats.

The last thing republicans want to do as an election year approaches is shutdown the government, be correctly and appropriately blamed for the shutdown, and end up passing the same legislation anyway because their inane shutdown (temper-tantrum) failed to realize the desired results – again.

A government shutdown is a political weapon most republicans don't want used against them by democrats.

great, gasoline and heating oil will go up again for us...gotta love republicans wanting to keep us buying that M/E foreign oil so they can keep the military industrial complex GOLD in their pockets, as we continue our perpetual war over there....

I can't stand the R congress critters even more now...

Since there are 435 members and and 218 are needed to pass a bill and there are 246 Republicans and Republicans IF THEY HAD ENOUGH VOTES could have passed it on their own, but fucking didn't, then Paul Ryan needed votes from the Democrats for it to pass. Which was my point from the beginning.

Did I really have to spell that out. I thought it was simple. But for a simpleton, obviously, it wasn't simple enough.

Not really. He's just passing what Boehner left over.

H.R. 1 is Ryan's bill. The one he really wants passed. Go ahead, read about it. This is not a joke. This is the bill Paul Ryan's Catholic religious leaders condemned.

House GOP spending cuts will devastate women, families and economy

lol, even though Obama has dropped bombs on seven different Muslim countries. it's the Republicans who is going to raise gas and oil prices. can you believe these people.
they talk how we should pay higher taxes for the better good. but when it comes time to pay up.

You want to cut the three areas that have never caused any of our debt problems and make up a huge part of our economy...Infrastructure, science and r&d. I could see it if you were attempting to pull us out of wars, undo the massive tax cuts and wanted to do what Bill clinton did. ;) This really makes Hillary look good!!!!

Why is it always cuts to things that boost our economy with these people? Pretty fucking dumb.

A lack of government funding never killed anybody.

Because they have no creativity. They don't see the big picture. They don't understand that it's our education, risk and innovation that make the big bucks.

Tell that tale to the veterans who're dying in line at the VA.
