The nation of Burma, now known as Myanmar, I used to know someone from the border there between there and Bangladesh--- Burma is one of the most beautiful and peaceful countries on the planet, with one fatal flaw. The continent of India just west of there came crashing up quickly into the Asian continent millions of years ago and its impact is what caused the Himalayan Mountains--- the fatal flaw being that it is still moving northward and still driving the Himalayas even higher, and as such, drives a horrible tectonic rift that goes right through Burma, leaving them susceptible to terrible earthquakes on occasion and one just hit.

A 7.7 magnitude quake followed closely by a 6.4 magnitude one just hit center of the country so severe that it had buildings and skyscrapers destroyed and casualties in nearby Thailand 600 miles away and was felt in China and elsewhere.

So far, more than 150 are known dead with over 700 others injured and the toll will only be climbing. The U.S. will likely be sending aid but that is still under evaluation pending more details coming in on the total severity of the crisis.

May Jesus be with the people of Thailand and Myanmar. In times like this we need to pray for these folks doesn’t matter what their religion is doesn’t matter if their Buddhists.

😔

Myanmar is also going through a Civil War that many people in the west are not aware of. It is a brutal violent war that’s been going on for years. But our media and our politicians(both side) almost never talk about it. It’s not the American citizens fault it’s our media Our politicians there hypocrisy. Now The people of Myanmar have to deal with the earthquake in addition to war.

That was a strong one!

Scary stuff! :omg:

i have been through earthquakes of both of those magnitudes.....it gets the Adrenalin going...

I saw a program on Burma long ago and I don't remember the details but basically, there is an earthquake fault line running through it which is straight and smooth, so prone to huge and rapid sliding inducing large earthquakes. Unfortunately, the region is caught between the Indian and Australian plates pushing one way while the Philippine plate pushes in the opposite direction with Burma caught in the middle being squeezed, so the pressure mounts with release of tectonic forces tending to be sudden and violent.

In Myanmar they are reporting 144 dead but that seems low.....730 injured.

In Thailand, Bangkok city authorities said 10 people were killed, 16 injured and 101 missing from three construction sites, including the high-rise.

Very possible :(

Similar earthquakes in similar circumstances have produced similar numbers. The news blackout within Myanmar will just make things all the harder since the military took over the country a few years ago.

Then it's something we don't have to worry about nor get fleeced for....You know, the tendency is to shovel money at them.

Maybe the rest of the world can pick up the shovel for a change.

Trump might send them a little aid but I doubt he will be sending any major support. For one thing, the country has been taken over by a brutal military junta.

my prayers for all the people affected by the earthquake in Myanmar, Thailand, and all of Southeast Asia. They will need a lot of help.

I think if the media outlets in America talk more about myanmar , we might be able to influence individual citizens to donate time, resources, and money to helping the people of Myanmar. Forget about taxpayer dollars… this could be done in a way where individuals or volunteer groups are helping out in a way that is more effective than what we have previously seen from taxpayer funded organizations..

That’s a 12-year-old Burmese girl working eight or 10 hours every day working a real tough job. And now these people have to deal with the aftermath of a horrendous earthquake. That’s an addition to the brutal war that is raging in Myanmar of which most people in the West have no idea about. And that’s not the American citizens fault it’s the media that’s our government they only talk about the wars in Ukraine and Palestine.

The earthquake will be in the western newsfeed, but for how long.???

Well I believe that our politicians and media were more honest and more moral in the 1940s and 50s when it comes to foreign issues. Because today they say it’s all about doing the right thing and helping people out …so why is it that we almost never saw a segment on the war in Myanmar on Fox or CNN. Actually, probably in the last year we probably never saw one segment about that situation in the US mass media …

The Burmese are nice people…. they have that south east Asian hospitality. And they deserve a lot better. Yes they deserve a better government but also more attention from abroad.
