It is really alarming seeing the developments taking place in Washington with President Trump prepared to permanently layoff thousands of Federal workers. We're not talking furloughs for these workers we're talking that their employment will be terminated. With this many federal workers being terminated it has to negatively affect federal government services which should raise the concern amongst all good Americans that with our Democracy the President isn't a Monarch, he doesn't get to be an authoritarian and do whatever he wants he is one of three coequal branches of government and the branch of government called Congress makes the laws even spending appropriation laws and the President must follow such laws even if he disagrees with the provisions of such law.
I am a citizen that is politically a centrist I am not a Democrat my top priority is to see what is best for the country to occur and so I would like to see each of the major two parties do the right thing. At this moment in time I strongly suggest eight Democrat Senators immediately come out and say they will vote to terminate the filibuster on the Republican Continuing Resolution and reopen the government because if President Trump goes through with the mass firings then the Democrats will have no choice but to make reversing these firings a condition for their votes to reopen the government Democrats cannot let such an egregious violation of the Congress's Constitutional power go without being rebutted or the Democrat party is feckless! The highly concerning repercussion of such a stance is that President Trump will not reverse he will endure a long shutdown basking in his own world where in his world his mass firings were getting rid of waste and ignoring the good these fired workers did. So it is important eight Democrat Senators not only vote to reopen the government tomorrow but come out immediately publicly that they will do so to hopefully stop the mass firings being threatened.
You know Democrats if President Trump wasn't going to do this authoritarian act of mass termination which changes the game, out of this shutdown you would eventually get a slightly slim down version of an extension of the enhanced premium tax credit of the ACA program which you would have gotten anyway in the full year budget bill and you would have caused a lot of pain to millions of American's affected by this shutdown. If tomorrow the eight courageous Democrat Senators vote to reopen the government Democrat critics will try to severely criticize the Democrat Party by claiming Democrats got nothing for this two day shutdown. This should be the Democrat Party's response we got something out of this we learned the true character of rank and file members of the Republican Party in Congress we learned that they are prepared to allow Donald Trump to act like an authoritarian and take away Congress's "power of the purse" and most importantly we aren't going to facilitate Republicans allowing President Trump to take a meat clever to the work of the Federal government meaning that we won't allow even one appropriation bill be brought up for a passage vote in the Senate. Republicans want regular order in the budget process forget that you Republicans aren't trustworthy! You Republicans care mightily about the military but little about the working poor so how do you like these apples you could let the Democrats write completely the Defense appropriation bill and it won't be brought up for a passage vote you Republicans aren't getting one missile, one submarine or one plane paid for. You listening Republicans no appropriation bill is getting passed unless all of them get passed, you Republicans still happy with yourself letting President Donald Trump act like he is accountable to no one and to nothing! One aside note aren't you Republicans troubled by President Trump's address yesterday to the U.S. armed forces top Generals and Admirals, numbering hundreds, in Quantico VA the President is the Commander-in-Chief and the only thing he did yesterday is to raise doubts about his competency in that role "America needs to bring back the battleship" really a battleship holds at least fifteen hundred sailors and with today's high speed missiles are extremely vulnerable is this the level of care of Americans lives the Commander-in-Chief should hold; if Donald Trump was a General or Admiral and spoke like that in front of his peers a good President would have likely fired him!
If the Democrats have to cause a long shutdown because of what President Trump and the Republican party are trying to do to America don't be deterred by the fact that you don't get any concessions from the Republicans. Use the Shutdown as an opportunity to show how Second-Term President Trump is a real and true plague on America and offer list of specific policies to counter this Trump/Republican badness, lay waste to these guys. Offer things like this Anti-Diversity Crusade of Trump is completely un-American it is time in American we stop this fight against racial unfairness; call for an amendment to the Constitution an amendment that specifically amends the Equal Protection Clause that allows for reasonable affirmative action - stop the obstruction of the effort to be fair to all races in getting admission to professional higher education Universities and to getting jobs whether public or private, etc..
Russell Vought the Director of the Budget Office and the architect of this mass firing plan and one of the co-authors of this Anti-American Book Project 2025 is doing an outstandingly immoral act with these large cuts it egregiously violates the Constitution in that this document give Congress, alone, the power of Appropriations. This is a dangerous precedent if a President can ignore Congress in this regard we have an unchecked President and such a President is extremely dangerous if these layoffs occur Mr. Vought should at the absolute minimum lose his job in the Federal government! In watching political leaders navigate the developments of this past two weeks one thing that I think is really sad for our country is the behavior of House Speaker Mike Johnson when he says things like what is the big deal Democrats you passed the CR bill in March this is just like it; Speaker Johnson is either treating the American people like were stupid and/or he has an integrity problem. The CR today is a short term clean CR and the CR in March was a full year CR that was highly partisan it reneged on the deal between speaker McCarthy and Biden, it increased military spending and border protection spending if I recall correctly, the difference between the CRs is like the difference between apples and oranges. I haven't researched it thoroughly but Speaker Johnson continually says that the Democrats want to do what they did in the Biden administration and give illegal immigrants Medicaid. I have a strong suspicion that Speaker Johnson isn't being honest here I think what he is referring to is President Biden gave 30,000 Cubans, Haitian, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans a month immigration parole (Personally I don't think President Biden should have done it because it circumvents America's immigration laws - but he did have the power to do it). So these people were in the country legally and many were working they were providing valuable labor in our economy so it is only fair that they should get healthcare (Medicaid), they are legally in the country and they are doing lawful work.
