This is another sign that Democrats are leading the Republicans in voting enthusiasm and Republicans are running into trouble heading into the midterms. Texas Democrats have a huge lead in early voting, despite Republicans also having a three candidate Senate primary, with incumbent John Cornyn facing down two primary challengers.

High Democratic turnout in Texas's Senate primary is driving record early voting numbers, giving hope to Democrats in the reliably red state.

Though primary turnout is usually lower in nonpresidential election years, the 2026 primary has drawn unusually close attention, largely due to the race between state Rep. James Talarico and Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX). In the first seven days of primary voting, a record 1,259,356 votes were cast — 665,664 for Democrats and 593,692 for Republicans, according to unofficial data from the Texas secretary of state, obtained by the Texas Tribune.

The unusually high turnout, greater than the past two presidential election cycles and almost double that of 2022, has stirred hope within Democrats that they could win statewide office for the first time in over three decades. Of particular note to Texas Democrats was Democratic enthusiasm in Harris County and Tarrant County, the most populous Democratic county and the most populous purple county, respectively.

Democrats always vote early so I’ll believe it when I see it.

I dont want that fake dumbass in the senate but it would be hilarious that she was representing Texas 😂

Primary participation in TX does not mean shit for either party as to the general election.....At least that's what folks down there say.

The MSM said the same thing about Beto as to participation but the only thing that came from it in the end were a bunch of black female "judges" that got elected in Harris county on his coattails.

Sigh, such is the folly of electing judges. 😐

Rep. Jasmine Crockett is leading State Rep. James Talarico by more than 10 points in the Texas Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate, according to a new poll.

The survey, conducted by pollsters at the University of Texas' Texas Politics Project, showed Crockett getting 56% of the support, compared to Talarico's 44%. It was conducted between February 2 and 16 among 369 voters and has a margin of error of +/-5.1 points. Both candidates had positive favorability ratings (Crockett +10 and Talarico +18).

Comment:
I am surprised that Crockett is ahead of Talarico.
The Democrat Party leadership prefers Talarico because he has a better chance against the Republican candidate.
They have been trying to tank Crockett.
But Crockett has better name recognition.

Who cares about turnout in PRIMARY elections?

I don't think we oughta casually dismiss this even though it is only the primary vote. I suspect Crockett will be the democrat challenger and she's likely to get a strong turnout from black voters plus other democrats and indies. But we'll see how it all turns out, nobody has won anything yet.

I could be wrong but if I remember 2024 correctly, this same thing also held true in many areas of the country.

Democrats always vote early so I’ll believe it when I see it.

"CNN’s chief data analyst Harry Enten said on Wednesday that Democrats had seized a lead in terms of turnout and said that this was “a massive shift.” He called it “unusual” and said that the last time this happened was in 2002, 24 years ago."

Real Texans don't feel the need to show up as much in the primaries as Democrats.

With over 18 million registered voters....you can't really brag about it much when less than 100,000 voters showed up to vote in a primary.
