Democrats and Hillary are still pissed that she did not understand / know what system decided the Presidency, are still pissed that she won the 'popularity contest' yet not the WH, and still pissed that after doing so she did not even get a 'participation trophy'.
As I stated, Hillary Clinton should never have even been in the election as she never WON her party's nomination.

The reason why slavery played a part in it is critical to why it is still important today, in a way.

And they doubled down by electing someone who thought she would be inaugurated to one of the three branches of Congress and then instantly promote her to the intellectual leadership of the Socialist democrat Party

First of all, you can't get rid of the electoral college.
It was the contract when the states joined, so it would deliberate criminal fraud to try to change it now, unless you dissolved the country and let the states decide all over again is they wanted to join the new country or not?
Second is that the purpose of the electoral college has not gone way.
It was to stop large urban centers, with their concentration of wealth, corruption, and population, from being able to infringe upon the rights of the rural minorities.
That is still necessary and always will be.
Concentrated urban populations are always the most corrupt because that is where the wealthy have the most control over the media.
So they must always be balanced out on a state by state basis.
In reality, it is likely the problem of urban corruption has gotten worse, not better.
CA, NY, and FL are good examples.
They are obviously the most corrupt.
And we do not want to let them dictate.

When Governors / Mayors / officials running Federal Law-violating Sanctuary Cities are led from their offices in handcuffs for aiding and abetting criminals, and when criminal governors / states like Jerry Brown / California stop going broke handing out freebies and paying for medical/lodging/food/etc for illegals with my tax dollas (and I don't live in those states) - when they decide to support Sanctuary Cities and can pay for it themselves - then you can talk to me about 'holding people hostage'.
I remember finding out for the 1st time how an 'Obama' tax was quietly added to my phone bill to pay for 'free' cell phones for deadbeats and free-loaders and there was nothing I could do about it I was pissed. This was the federal government STEALING money from me to give it to someone else.
I was more pissed to pass one of those Obamaphone give-away locations and saw these deadbeats talking on a phone of their own while in line to get another 'free' Obamaphone!
Stealing money out of my pocket to give to deadbeat Americans is one thing - stealing money from my pocket to give to deadbeat violent illegal border crossers is another.

The reason the electoral college was not the cause of Hillary's loss of the election, is that she had the opportunity to campaign in all the states as well as Trump did. If she had set foot in WI, IL, ID, OH, etc., then she might have won.
But she did not.
She deliberately ran a campaign based on popular vote, knowing that the electoral college was in force.
So it was all her own fault, and can't blame anyone else.
If the electoral college had not existed, Trump would still have won, because then he would have also run a popular vote campaign as well, and also skipped the smaller states.
