He was accepted to Cal Poly, Florida Atlantic and Cal State, so I don't think he's that worried.

The California Polytechnic Universities don't have an "acceptance" criterion per se. If you are a California resident, a high school graduate, and you pass the entrance exam you get in. I'm an alumni of Cal Poly Pomona from my undergrad program.
