The D.C. region's economy is teetering on the edge of a painful slump, experts warn, as the Trump administration's spending cuts, including the elimination of thousands of federal jobs, take their toll on an area that was already struggling to recover from the impacts of the pandemic.

In the city, the number of unemployed residents was up by 12.2 percent in February compared with a year ago, reaching 24,558, even before many of the Trump administration's actions had taken effect, according to the most recent analysis by the D.C. Office of the Chief Financial Officer. New unemployment claims were up 167 percent, to 4,885. Among federal workers, unemployment claims jumped to 285, from just eight in February 2024.

Last month, the bond ratings agency Moody's downgraded the District's rating, stripping it of its coveted triple-A bond rating and probably raising its borrowing costs. The agency cited the Trump administration's "substantial cuts to the federal workforce" and revised D.C.'s outlook to "negative."

Gee, I was hoping for bigger numbers in NOtVA.....Hopefully they all move before November.

This is what I voted for, and I’m freaking ecstatic.....They are not my "fellow Virginians" either, just a bunch of transplants. Later days.

I've always thought this move could turn VA back to red.

I have always been one that believes a small government is a better government. We do not need a number of paper pushers all pushing the same paper around and around.especially on the tax payers dime.
I really applauded Clinton when he fired so many. Unfortunately for him it was one of the few things I thought he got right. Also unfortunately it did not take long for the government to start increasing in size once again.

District of Collectiva

When I was stationed at Quantico, Virginia, Marines on liberty would drive hundreds of miles to get away from that snobbish Statist swamp.

You didn't partake of the Rt.1 bars while there?

LOL....I hear tell more Marines were rolled in bars there by Vietnamese (boat people) whores than in Saigon.
