If you are in the U.S. without permission then you have broken the law. Immigration law states that you only need get an interview with border patrol or an immigration officer to determine if you are allowed to stay.
If you are not allowed to stay then you need to leave or be forcefully removed.
The law is the law. Unfortunately a lot of democrats do not like the law. But unfortunately for them a large part of the public still feels that the law should be followed.
It is true that democrats will lose seats in congress if illegals are deported or they are not counted in the census. This maybe a large part of why they are so dead set against this.
