Crime up 22 pct since NY's new bail law

Another Democrat run city going down the toilet.

Late in December, New York tabloids ran stories about Tiffany Harris, a mentally ill woman who slapped several Jewish women. Harris was arrested, arraigned, released, and only a few days later hit another woman, shouting out, “Fuck you, Jews!” The episode resonated in a Jewish community already alarmed about the increasing frequency of anti-Semitic incidents, but the papers also explicitly linked Harris’s case to bail reform. Left unsaid in the furor was the fact that the new bail law gives judges the option of ordering mental health counseling, but Harris’s judge hadn’t done so. Instead, a punitive narrative took hold: Why wasn’t this woman with untreated mental illness in jail?
The Unraveling of Hard-Won Criminal Justice Reforms in New York

The republicans are anti the bail law, surprised , you shouldn't be.

Some prosecutors , judges and republican cops are making it so.

The republicans are displaying common sense

something that democrats do not have

As the struggle in New York heats up, it’s drawing national attention. No less a figure than Trump recognized the political resonances of the issue when he tweeted about it in November. Last month, Attorney General William Barr waded into the debate personally, traveling to New York City to announce that the woman who had hit several people in Brooklyn, now receiving treatment for her mental illness in a hospital, would be prosecuted with a federal hate crime.

No they are not, the law of course needs to be tweaked, but other states do it.

The republicans are doing the same in NY to make sure the BAIL reform bill is not a good idea, like they have tried to end the ACA since inception.

The republicans make me ill, as now some love the ACA.

The law is putting criminals on the street to commit more crimes

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, fired back that the New York law, which takes effect in January, is “essentially the same bail reform law New Jersey passed several years ago under Republican Governor Chris Christie,” Trump’s longtime friend and ally.
Cops are making fewer arrests since N.J. got rid of cash bail

Alaska itself, a deeply red state, may not seem like a likely candidate for leading the charge on bail reform. But the issue has attracted supporters from disparate political stances. New Jersey’s Republican governor helped champion a law that ended bail in the state. Kentucky was an early adopter, directing judges to release all low-risk defendants beginning in 2011. Meanwhile, some deep blue states, such as California and New York, are still working toward reform.

Simply releasing criminals back on the streets just leads to more crime even if the cops stop arresting people

Not a bad as locking up millions of innocents that can't afford bail.

We do not lock up "millions of innocents". Quit your goddamn lying.

Lots of people here have no idea about how bail works, why there are issues, and seem to suddenly ignore that in the U.S. we are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. I wrote a paper about the issues with the cash bail system and reform last semester and it can totally ruin the live's of innocent people.
