Yes, their presence in the US is a crime. Don’t bother explaining that to me. What matters, however, is the prevalence of separate crimes which is quite low. Is this because they are good, moral people compared to other people? Of course not. The reason why is pretty simple: any crime exposes their status of being undocumented. These people aren’t stupid. Maybe they might want to commit a crime because that’s part of being human sometimes, but they know the risk of doing so is too great.
