Could the Soviets had taken Europe after the unconditional surrender of Germany?

So at the end of WWII, the Soviets decide to take their massive war machine that they just defeated the Germans with and unleash it on American and British forces.

Could the Soviets have taken Europe?

Sans Britain, cause Britain is an island.

I doubt it. They were exhausted from fighting for 5 years and their logistics were far inferior to the Allies.

No, they couldn’t

They were depleted and couldn’t extend their supply lines that far

Plus, they didn’t want Western Europe

...the problem with ''what if'' situations, is that there are many counter ''what ifs''''
....you people think it's a board game...you think in unrealistic terms
..it's not a board game

No. The US would have mopped the floor with them. Our airpower was 2nd to none.

If the Soviets attacked American and British forces, there was some talk of reviving German units. It was estimated that 7 divisions of German troops could be raised.

Backed with American oil and allied air cover.

After Japanese surrender the US had no more atom bombs.
The assembly line was being created at that time. They'd have been able to fight off the Red Army for long enough to assemble a few and then deliver them against several Russian cities, including Moscow and Leningrad. Stalin understood how much power he had and he understood what it would take to grind down a military as well-supplied and trained as the U.S. had at the time. Patton was assassinated for wanting to continue fighting the Reds. HE UNDERSTOOD the real threat.

Were bombers that effective?

I understand that they didn't bother the Germans that much.

No, they weren't. What they did really well was navigate to the target and give the escorting fighters a course home.

The escorting fighters then dropped down to low level and destroyed anything that moved.

The Soviets would be unable to resipply their forces.
