And if the answer from the mental/medical community is “its not our job”, well its not a cops job to show up and try to be a psychologist or paramedic, but they do. Why? Because their whole whopping 2-3 weeks of self defense training at the Academy is what the EMS and psych workers dont have, so apparently cops HAVE to go do stuff that’s not “their” job. So give that self defense training and some pepper spray or tasers to EMS/psych workers.

Our Oh Shit!!!! Ambulance service is a volunteer organization. They are the ones that get the serious calls and do not enjoy the legal protections of police, have the legal authority as police, and I am guessing, wouldn't have the staff they have if there were no police. The Oh Whatever for-profit, privately-owned Ambulance service responds to the less serious calls and as back up to the Oh Shit!!! service. At my house, you know which one is coming because the Oh Shit!!! calls usually get the fire department first responders dispatched too and you can hear two sets of sirens coming from two opposite directions when they are rolling your way. The Oh Whatever service are fine for taking granny from the nursing home to the ER for some tests, but not the one you want if you aren't breathing, are on fire, or have something protruding in you more serious than a lost cucumber up the bunghole.

Military combat medics get trained in weapons just like soldiers. Would a combat medic watch someone suffer bc theres not an infantryman nearby to “make it safe”? I doubt it.

Its simply unacceptable for modern EMS or mental health workers to refuse to cross train. What if all cops are busy and EMS/mental health is sitting down the street waiting while someone who is in medical or mental distress waits? THAT is selfish

Well times change. Why do they expect cops take on all those roles that arent their jobs, but EMS and mental health balk at the idea of themselves stepping up and adapting to the times??

Im not saying train in offensive tactics. Just defensive. So if there is a single mentally ill person they can respond rather than wait on cops. Afterall, its a “health” incident. Not a broken law incident
