A genetic adaptation in high Tibet is enabling women there to have more children than those lacking the adaptation. While other populations at high altitudes also adapt in different ways, the adaptation in Tibet puts no strain on the cardio-pulmonary system.

It's ongoing everywhere. More and more people lack wisdom teeth, less and less people are lactose intolerant, etc...

Old news ... I remember this being discussed back in the 1960's ... the article is written for 10- or 12-year-olds ... probably why it caught the OP's eye ... so they didn't have to say what that "adaption" is ... so it's likely made-up bullshit ...

Everybody has this genetic trait ... everybody who lives long enough at altitude gains this benefit ... mountaineers know to spend weeks (?) at altitude before they try to climb above 15,000 feet ... IIRC the body reacts to the thin atmosphere by producing more red blood cells ... athletes as well will train in places like Mexico City and Quito, then go directly to compete at sea level ... they say it gives a bit of advantage ...

Not evolution ... there's no genetic change ... all of us have this ability ... not just Tibetan women ... (what a racist thing to say) ... more likely the social and economic stresses of ongoing genocide of Tibetan culture and bloodlines on the Plateau are causing the women to whelp more often ... very common among the various rat lineages ...

Can you please make that distinction? ... evolution can cause adaptation, but not necessarily ... or are you using different definitions ... you've made this distinction in other threads and I've been meaning to ask you about it ...

Sounds like you're making the same mistake Darwin made ... "survival of the fittest" has no part in biological evolution ... all that matters is reproduction, not adaptation ...

Consider the lowly virus ... some say it's not even life ... yet we know it evolved after bacteria ... that's the virus' food source, so bacteria had to have come first ... a case of biological evolution moving form complex to simple ... viruses can't reproduce without a host ... and they gain reproductive advantage by using a host ...

Thank you ... you are making the same mistake as Darwin ... evolution doesn't consider being "better suited to its environment", only reproduction ... house cats are good example ... they have to live with semi-evolved rats and that's never better ... wildcats run the other direction and that's what caused speciation ... no matter how bad our homes are for house cats, living in our homes increases their reproduction ... the only thing the modern synthesis cares about ...

How about actually reading the article. No, everybody does not have that ability. The genetic change involves changes in the heart structure and ability of the amount of oxygen the blood can carry. The adaptation of the Andean people involves denser blood, which carries more oxygen, but also increases blood pressure. Try actually reading what you respond to.
