Well there are two jurisdictions on one Island...Oh, sorry I asked.
"The Republic of Ireland is not part of the UK.
On the other hand, Northern Ireland is one of the four constituent countries that make up the United Kingdom."
Is this like a Haiti/Dominican Republic thing?
Are there border checkpoints and fences?
It costs UK a fortune to maintain Northern Ireland, history of violence and deeply divided community really doesn't help.
London would give it to Dublin in the morning but the Republic isn't that stupid (well most of them)... The area is a basket case with about 75% of the economy either working directly or indirectly for the government... It is like one big government admin office as far as we can see...
Northern Ireland used to be wealthier than Ireland until about 2000, then the Celtic Tiger economy of the Republic of Ireland over took over. This is where Ireland become very business friendly, low corp tax and heavy investment in Education and infrastructure...
If there was unification today, a civil war would be tomorrow and to the Republic of Ireland, thanks but no thanks..
