This indicates moderators out of control, not telling you why.
They shouldn't be moderators.
Notice there doesn't appear to be any verbiage under the rules telling how one is in violation and notified of the posted rules of conduct.
Unless I missed something.
Well, my understanding is that it cannot be just one mod but must be a group (committee) decision. Thing is that I wasn't doing a thing, fairly pride myself on knowing and usually trying to follow the rules (especially when they are purposeful and clear) and all I was told was that it was because of a "rule violation" which is bullshit. That could mean any of 2000 things. Worse, you are totally cut off and cannot even contact anyone for further details nor research your own content, etc., to try to find your own answers.
Worse, "scorecards" are kept on people here, yet you are never told what your score is. It really pissed me off to be treated so flagrantly disrespectfully that I left this place for four months and really only conditionally came back last June when Biden crashed and burned and sort of just stayed here again since.
Would it make sense for a cop to pull you over and give you a ticket but not tell you why you were stopped? How can you avoid an infraction when you're not even told what it was? The purpose of rules is to contain behavior within boundaries but here, the boundaries are often so ill-defined--- in this case, not at all. What makes it worse is selective enforcement--- maybe that is due to under-staffing but when you see a rule violation let go 20 times, you assume then it is OK and no big thing to do, but then if you are nailed for it, it becomes very irregular--- it sends a bad message. Worse, I hate it when mods tell you to "report it," in effect, they are putting YOU in the position of doing their jobs! That implies that unless someone brings it to their attention, they were not paying attention.
One big problem I see with Xenforo is that it inadvertently REWARDS BAD BEHAVIOR AND MEMBERS. What do I mean? People are only reported for their posts if you read them first. Jerks and idiots tend to be put on IGNORE by those most offended. If a person is such an a-hole that lots of people tune them out (I'm sure folks can think of certain names) then they are no longer seen by many people. Once you put them on IGNORE, you can't report them if you don't see them, so the worst actors become LESS likely to be reported! Meanwhile, these are the very people most likely to still report YOU. The net effect is that the bigger jerk you act here, the more you are ignored, the less likely then your chances of being reported so you can continue on being a jerk. The IGNORE feature really needs much better thought out by the Xenforo people.
Whoever wrote the rules here really sucked at it. Many rules are so ambiguous as to require interpretation, made all the worse by the "zone" system. Who ever knows what "zone" they are in when they jump from thread to thread as they pop up randomly in the activity list? Maybe some day when I'm no longer so pissed about it, I may try to get a straight answer about why I was banned for six days out of the clear blue for no good reason I know of, but I really will be surprised if I ever get a clear, congruent answer.
