I was talking with friends about Alabama football and we got into our favorites.

1) Team
2a) Favorite player - Offense
2b) Favorite player - Defense
3) Favorite play of all time
4) Favorite Game
5) Favorite Season

Speaking of Alabama, do you know why police can never solve any murder mysteries there?

It's because there are never any dental records and all the DNA is the same.

1) Alabama Crimson Tide - been a fans since the 1960s.

2a) Julio Jones - toughest wide receiver I have seen. He would have made a lockdown cornerback if he wasn't a world class receiver.

2b) Derrick Thomas - Greatest Linebacker ever! His record of 7 sacks in a single game still stands.

3) At first I thought the hit by John Metchie to knock the ball loose after an interception. But I have to go with the goalline stand in the 1979 Sugar Bowl against Penn State.

4) Beating LSU 21-0 for the National Championship for the 2011 season, or the 1979 Sugar Bowl.

5) Lots of great seasons, but the 2020 season is the best. Having 3 players in the Top 5 Heisman voting says a lot about the firepower on that team.

Funny joke, but the 2 guys in the pic aren't Alabama boys. Saban is from West Virginia and Kiffin is from Minnesota.

And while they are not related, Saban is certainly Kiffin's "Daddy" on the field.

Hey, it was a helluva game. In fact, all the Bama/Penn State games were great. Two of the best coaches going at it? The best.
Agreed. College football at its finest.
I forgot to add: after 44 years, that goal line stand still hurts.😭

I see you already started a thread.

My favorite team is the MSU Spartans. My cousin played a sport there, my brother went, my two nephews go and my ancestors are from Sparta.

I also root for Michigan.

I hate Ohio State the most.

Didnt Jones play for Atlanta falcons the year they blew it in the Super Bowl?

Yep. That was a sad game.
Seems like he disappeared after that. What happened to him? He was unstoppable that year. A game changer. Is he stuck on a crappy team or did he get hurt?

How about Dion sanders and his son?

He was traded to the TN Titans. I had high hopes for that move. One of the greatest receivers in NFL history playing along side the best RB in the game today (Derrick Henry).

I’ll keep an eye out maybe this year he will be healthy and productive.

One of my fav plays by Julio. Not as a receiver, but running down an interception.

i saw a few plays yesterday, heard some on radio. They were raving how good the kid was in a 0-0 game. The kid QB is for real.

They ran a reverse close to goal line, completely fooled pitiful NEB. COL coaching looks for real now also.

Heres hoping they can wax some top ten teams rear ends going forward. Let ALA or GA play them. It would be as good a CF beating Auburn or FSU just demolishing LSU recently. SEC is rated high by the ratings agencies, not on the field. If all you do is play each other + cupkakes? It‘s a can’t lose.

Sure I’ll take a swing at it. The 2006 (I think it was) Rose Bowl between USC and Texas. Nobody hates the ‘Horns more than I do so It’s not a Texas thing or “thang” as some say. But that performance on that one night by Vince Young was probably the single greatest performance I have seen by any single athlete...ever. And this came on the biggest stage of the season, all the chips were down, playing the toughest opponent in their own house--pretty much.

What made it so great was that USC took the best punch UT could deliver...several times and came right back. You cheered for the underdog but you didn’t think the underdog could win. On that night they did.
