CNN’s Jim Acosta forced to correct Harris surrogate for suggesting JD Vance never served in military

‘I’m not aware of any military service that JD Vance has ever served,’ Sen. Tina Smith said

Published August 7, 2024 6:00pm EDT

CNN’s Jim Acosta was forced to correct a top Harris surrogate who suggested GOP vice presidential nominee JD Vance never served in the military on Wednesday.

Sen. Tina Smith, D-Minn., who is working to help Vice President Kamala Harris defeat the GOP ticket, appeared on CNN and responded to Sen. JD Vance’s recent claim that Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, is misleading the country about his veteran status. Vance famously enlisted in the Marines and served in Iraq long before entering politics, but that was news to Smith.

"Here is Tim Walz who enlisted when he was 17 years old, he served in the National Guard for 24 years. And I’m not aware of any military service that JD Vance has ever served, so let’s just make the comparison there," Smith told CNN viewers.

Acosta, who was a key Trump antagonist when he served as CNN’s White House reporter, didn’t immediately jump in but corrected Smith before she finished her next sentence.
"He was in the Marines," Acosta said.

Smith responded, "OK, pardon me for that," before quickly moving on.

Vance was a correspondent.

They are currently in a deep, dark, and blinding love affair with Walz now, so to the democrats no republicans have ever served in the military... especially Vance.

When in reality Vance actually served in the Iraq war, and Walz vacated his duty to fight in a war. He ran away from the military.

And?

Think Joker and Rafterman in Full Metal Jacket.

Vance was not a ground-pounder - served no combat duty, but did serve in Iraq. Walz took money from the Army reserves for years and years, but when called to serve, he took a powder, so to speak.

Nobody votes for the Vice President, so it doesn't really matter, but one might note that Walz was picked because he was mediocre enough not to be threatening to Harris, unlike Shapiro.

Vance is honest about his USMC service.....He never said he saw any combat, in fact he made that clear.

"I served in a combat zone. I never said that I saw a firefight myself, but I've always told the truth about my Marine Corps service. That's the difference," Vance said Wednesday. -ABC

I never cared he didn't see combat. Being there, helping, doing your duty doesn't always mean you pull a trigger on another person. Even cooks in the field are heroes because without them the men fighting wouldn't make it.

Whatever his job was if he did his duty, performed to the best of his ability, didn't back down and was there for the men with him then there is nothing to look down on.

But I can admire a man that doesn't embellish on his achievements or try to make himself sound greater than he was.

Right wing pundits get sued, screwed and tattooed and even thrown in jail but nobody on the left ever gets fired.

Adding insult to your injury.. J.D. Vance took on Dana Bash and schooled her on the truth...
One suspects that like Acosta, Bash has sipped too many of the "he's stupid" kool-aid drinks and didn't realize how effective a communicator Vance is. She wanted to give him enough rope to hang himself, but gave her (tiny) audience a real-time demonstration about why Trump / Vance are so popular instead.

A marine is a marine no matter what job they have as one, first a rifleman then the job.
Same is true for the U.S. Army. Every recruit must qualify with a rifle, which he cleans and lives with daily - his best friend. You are never alone or undefended if you have a loaded rifle and know how to use it. I qualified as an expert with an M-14 out to 350 yards. It is rewarding to watch your metal targets fall, one after another, right Gunny? Them or you is an easy choice.

the Army does not teach that every member is a rifleman I went through army basic train and AI training,

LOL that doesn't mean the army thinks every soldier is a rifleman nor that they practice it.
LOL, in the same vein, every cook, every clerk in the marines, by the way, is a "rifleman" like those in the army are riflemen. LOL that, "gunny." Our drill sergeant told us we had to be ready to use that weapon.... obviously as riflemen, not some non-combat MOS.

It proves that CNN operates on rumors and inuendoes that seem to criticize only republicans and they are unable or unwilling to check a simple but vitally important fact. Does CNN rely on Al Queda or the KGB for stories? You have to wonder if they are this careless.

CNN anchor Jim Acosta goes on anti-Trump tirade before quitting over move to late-night slot

28 Jan 2025 ~~ By Ariel Zilber
Embattled CNN anchor Jim Acosta announced Tuesday that he is leaving the network — and took a parting shot at the Trump administration by urging viewers not to “give in to the lies” in a final on-air rant.
Acosta, a former White House correspondent at CNN who often butted heads with President Trump during his first term, was reportedly slated to be relegated to the graveyard shift from his current morning slot.
“You may have seen some reports about me and this show. And after giving all of this some careful consideration and weighing an alternative time slot CNN offered me, I have decided to move on,” Acosta said at the end of his 10 a.m. program.
In his final message to viewers before signing off, the raging anchor equated Trump to “a tyrant.” “Don’t give in to the lies. Don’t give in to the fear. Hold on to the truth. And to hope, even if you have to get out your phone, record that message,” he said. “I will not give in to the lies. I will not give in to the fear. Post it on your social media, so people can hear from you, too.”

His exit comes at a time when CNN’s leadership is seeking a more neutral political stance, particularly as Trump returns for a second term.
CNN is not alone in downsizing; NBC News, The Washington Post, and the Associated Press have also announced job cuts as part of cost-saving measures.

Commentary:
Maybe he'll team up with Don Lemon. They seem made for each other, lemon is bitter and wrinkled.
Let's not forget that although CNN is supposedly changing it's format to a more neutral one, they attempted to do it before when they hired Glen Beck. Well, that didn't last too long either.
So in three moths CNN has forced three of their talking head off the air programming the first was Lemon, then Camerota, Chris Wallace and now Costa.
I was brought up to believe that it’s the job of the press to hold those in power to account.
What we've seen for decades is a biased media and press.
Will it change with this administration or will they continue with their Marxist Socialist propagandist lies?
