In a media environment where narratives shift by the hour, it is not every day that CNN delivers a data point that cuts against the grain of what many viewers have come to expect.

Yet that is exactly what happened during a recent morning broadcast analyzing the outlook for the 2026 midterm elections.

The segment focused on a straightforward but telling metric, net party favorability in midterm cycles under a Republican president.

The numbers presented were not complicated, but they carried serious political implications.

Looking back at 2006 under George W. Bush, Democrats held a commanding +18 advantage in net favorability.

That kind of margin helped fuel a wave election that reshaped Congress.

In 2018, during President Trump’s first term, Democrats again maintained a strong edge at +12, which translated into significant gains and control of the House.

Then came the comparison to the current cycle under President Trump’s second term, and this is where things took a noticeable turn.
According to the data presented on-air, Republicans now hold a +5 advantage. That is a complete reversal from the pattern seen in previous midterm environments.

The CNN correspondent did not dance around the implications.

The analysis included the direct observation that Democrats are “running behind their previous benchmarks.” That statement may sound technical, but the meaning is simple.

In past midterms where Democrats were successful, they entered the cycle with a sizable advantage in voter sentiment. That advantage does not currently exist.

Democrats are trailing (badly in some cases) in some very predictive areas.
President Trump consistently defies all odds.

Hilarious. Morons.

You need to change your signature from BJ.. to BS.

CNN is playing 5-D chess with your tiny mindset.
Winning 24/7.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this stuff proliferate as we get closer.

It would give the flock license to claim the elections were rigged.

"But ALL THE POLLS said we were winning in a LANDSLIDE!"

Doesn't appear that you understood the story.
Shock.

OF COURSE the President will dominate the Congressional mid-term elections. Every Democrat will campaign on Trump hatred and every Republican will be challenged incessantly to either agree with what Trump is doing or disagree.

Who doesn't know that?

The better path would be for the voters to focus on the actual competing candidates and the policies they claim to stand for, but Trump's shadow will be all over it.

It doesn't matter what the competing candidates run on -(especially on the Democrat side)

Once they get to Washington their position is the party position.

It's hilarious to watch the responses of the left. They are so overwhelmed with Trump Hate that they think ALL politics revolves around Trump and the midterms is just about whether the people like Trump or not. They act as if the dumocraps aren't even involved in the midterms. It will be a rude awakening when they see that the American people actually hate the dumocraps more than they hate Trump. And the people will realize Trump is not on the ballot, but every house dumocrap and about a third of the dumocrap senators are.

The voters know this. Dumocraps are for open borders and giving everything to illegal aliens and nothing to the people, rampant violent crime, and massive fraud. The dumocraps think the people won't think about that, they will only vote based on how they feel about Trump.

You have no agendas except the craziness. Imagine the 130illion dollars spent on the high-speed rail in California on all other ways of transportation including conventional trains. Modernizing energy and water with it also.

Yep....Mark Warner was a very good Governor in a Blue Dog dem type of way. As far as i know his popularity was always in the high 70s and he was elected to the US Senate in a landslide. Hell, I even voted for him.

Of course once he hit the Senate he separated from the Blue dog coalition and has voted lock-step with everything the vile dems have put forth or have voted against....Without fail.

Fine, lesson learned....Never trust a dem.

Alternate universe.
Not when you consider the democrats positions on illegals crime men in womens bathrooms, massive social service fraud in their states, tax tax tax , refusal to support America first, opposition to the Iran war, millions leaving democrat states. It isnt going to play out well in a national election

This is why lefties are now calling Trump a 🐱 for agreeing to a ceasefire.

THE LEFTIES WANT WAR IN ORDER TO HAVE SOMETHING TO CRY ABOUT FOR THE MIDTERMS.

MAKE NO MISTAKE…THE LEFTIES WANT THIS WAR TO ESCALATE AND THEY WANT LOTS OF PEOPLE TO DIE SO THEY CAN USE IT TO HELP WIN BACK CONGRESS.

The left demcrats progressives socialist are anti American and as we all saw its America last fir them

I think the GOP will do very well in midterm elections but there are too many activist judges that will try to derail any success the Republicans will try to achieve.
