He raped this child that he kidnapped. Read the story for all details. What is really terrible too is her step father also raped her but he got only 11 years in prison. He helped Collings dispose of her in a cave.

Both men should be punished, but I'm not so sure it should be by lethal injection.
I would sentence both men to life in prison. Prisoners find out what you are in for.
They don't like child rapists.
Let these guys be the brutal bitches to about 25 inmates for several years until finally someone cleaves them in the laundry room with a shiv.

BONNE TERRE, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri man was executed Tuesday for sexually assaulting and killing a 9-year-old girl, then dumping her body in a sinkhole outside a small, rural town.
Christopher Collings, 49, was a friend of the family of the victim, fourth-grader Rowan Ford — so much so that he lived with the family for several months before the girl’s death in November 2007. He sometimes helped Rowan with her homework. She knew him as “Uncle Chris.”
Collings was put to death with an injection of a single dose of pentobarbital and pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m. CST at the state prison in Bonne Terre, Missouri, authorities said. The execution was the 23rd in the U.S. this year and the fourth in Missouri. Only Alabama with six and Texas with five have performed more executions in 2024.

OK, he died. Did you hear what happens to anyone injected with pentobarbital? They go to sleep. That is about as much as you need to know. They fall asleep rapidly. They feel nothing at all. The victim felt her neck strangled. He simply dozed off. Doctors use it on patients who have a very hard time going to sleep. The dose by doctors is a lot less.

In my checking this out, I came across the last man they publicly hung in Missouri.

I want you to get this picture of him. He murdered a man. And was a bit talkative prior to the trap being sprung. He talked of how hard it is on a person about to be executed. He said he hopes it helps the viewers.
See this was a public execution where 5000 people attended the death.

I live in McDonald County Missouri ...It was most horrendous to see a pedophile's work. I would be pleased to pop a cap in dat head, for free.(both of them)

The drug they used on this convict put him to sleep. Actually doctors already use that drug on patients to deal with stress. Then he vanished into thin air leaving a corpse on the table.

NEWTON COUNTY, Mo. — With the impending execution of convicted child-killer Christopher Collings, the spotlight shifts to his co-defendant, Rowan Ford’s step-father, David Spears.

Spears, along with Collings, had originally confessed to the rape and murder of Rowan Ford in 2007. In all of his court filings, Collings asserts that Spears was actually the “mastermind” behind the plan to rape and murder the little 9-year-old girl.

Shortly after his release from prison, but before he was off probation, Spears went to work for the Missouri State Public Defender’s office. He was hired by his trial attorney’s husband. State records show his date of hire was June 27, 2016. With credit given for time served between his arrest and his conviction, Spears was released in March of 2015. He was placed on probation until November of 2017. This means Spears worked for the state public defender’s office for one year and eight months before his probation ended.
