Here's the thing. Suicide rates are higher in almost all Asian countries. It's even higher in Japan and S. Korea than it is in China. (Although, I suspect the Chinese are underreporting their numbers). Simply put, suicide is considered honorable in their cultures, as opposed to shaming your family or failing in life in general.

We give our failures reality TV shows and even put one in the White House... twice.
