That libation was originally purchased from the NY vintner, Pio Valley Boones Farm in the 60s by E&J Gallo Winery. Over the year's they have dropped portions of the brand name until now it is just "Boones." I've consumed a bit of it myself during college years--couldn't beat 99 cents a bottle.
We were around 15 lol. One of my friends' older brothers would buy it for us.

LOL, I remember those days. BTW, just for trivia sake, Boones Farm Wild Mountain wine and Ripple were the same wine. Same bottle--they didn't even shut the filler down, just changed to labels from BF Wild Mountain to Ripple.

I have learned about these wines in the mean time.
what.s the word?
Thunderbird!
what.s the price?
twenty twice!
Thunderbird and Night Train Express are cheap, garbage, high alcohol (14-19%) fortified pear wines. Usual people that drink them are either alcoholics or young folks looking for an extreme buzz. Boone's on the other hand are fairly low alcohol (8%), soda pop wines that appeal mostly to young people who are not sophisticated about their choices in wines. Neither would be considered a serious wine drinker's choice.

and the best of the Rieslings in our region go into a special bottle, the Bocksbeutel.

In Portugal they have similar bottles.
