Change afoot, or just trying to put out a fire?

Well, it looks like Iran has disbanded its feared morality police. There is also talk of changing the laws about requiring the wearing of head scarves in the country. Could this be actual change from the government in response to the recent and ongoing protests, or is it just a temporary ploy to calm the situation?

They're trying to put out a fire. It's going to take a lot more for total regime change

A co-worker went back to Iran when his brother was dying of Covid. Took him 2 years to get back to the US.
He told me about the "morality police" and how they beat both women and men. If you were suspected of withholding information on an alleged person who broke the rules, you were beaten and jailed also.

When the people of Iran protest in huge numbers, the Govt. run by religious fanatics will bend a little. They have no choice and it could only be temporary till the protesting stops.
