Canada has been in decline for decades across multiple leaders and jurisdictions.

Our biggest problem is we don't have thinkers. We have a system that mocks intellect. If you are a philosopher people look down on you, or worse, exploit you.

Good in school? Nerd! If you speak in ideal terms, about principle, character, ideals of Due Process, Rule of Law, individual liberty, Right to Self Determination etc. You will receive a blank stare. Viewed with disdain, a virus or a nuisance.

If you want greatness as a nation you need historical idols and grand visionaries who speak their mind. Anytime a leader does so here they are blanketed with mockery.
