Zone1 Catholic Bishops Blast DHS

The fact is that a large - huge - number of these illegals are faithful Catholics. As soon as they get to an area, they hook up with the local RC Church community, go to Mass regularly, and become a major part of the parish community, if mainly as beneficiaries of their "outreach." My own "parish*" in Western Pennsylvania has had to add a Spanish version of the weekly Bulletin to cater to what appears to be about a third of the parishioners, as well as a weekly Mass in Spanish.

From a humanitarian standpoint, the folks constitute a great opportunity for Catholics to express and manifest their "Christian charity," so a massive campaign to remove them - just because they are in the country illegally - is an assault on those parishes.

As a MAGA Republican Catholic (like JDV and many others), I fully support the parish's generosity to these unfortunate people, while at the same time I fully support enforcement of our nation's immigration laws.

I think George Orwell referred to it as "double-think." Believing two opposing things at the same time.

These Catholic Bishops should stay out of politics. This is very upsetting to me as a Catholic.

.

Anyone who calls the illegal invaders "immigrants", up to and including the Pope, is simply wrong.

Anyone who uses the brain cells that God gave them realizes that this is a good time to disagree with the US Bishops.

And I don't even feel compelled to hit the confessional over this. They are not infallible, and they are wrong.

Sec Homan might actually be that rare creature, a "good Catholic".

As an RC myself I think the Bishops are right to call for the US Gov to act HUMANELY towards non-documented aliens. There really must be coffee and biscuits on their flights out of the US.

No; assisting the poor while they await getting sent home is fine. As long as the money is DONATED and given with genuine charity I am all good with it.

"our concern here for immigrants" ....OK; not a problem.

"We oppose the indiscriminate mass deportation of people...." #metoo. Only illegal immigrants should be deported!!!

"We pray for an end to dehumanizing rhetoric and violence, whether directed at immigrants or at law enforcement," ...I agree with both those statements. Illegal immigrants are still God's creatures who have sinned in entering the US illegally. Law enforcement is doing the right thing in assisting them to repent and go home.

" "Catholic teaching exhorts nations to recognize the fundamental dignity of all persons, including immigrants. We bishops advocate for a meaningful reform of our nation's immigration laws and procedures. Human dignity and national security are not in conflict. Both are possible if people of good will work together.""..............I strongly encourage those Nations from which many are sourced who have entered the US illegally to Follow The Lord, denounce their corruption and provide a Nation from which their Citizens do NOT want to leave.

So if those who wish to enter the US don't sin by entering illegally then I am fine with that.

I wish the Bishops would consider Jesus saying, "I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber."

It appears, open borders entailed child trafficking, drug trafficking, rapes, murders, and extortion. Does Christ welcome, usher these into the Kingdom of God? What have these bishops to offer the loved ones of those who died from drug trafficking? What have Bishops to say to those who were/are exploited sexually? Do they suggest turning the other cheek?
Do they offer gangs and drug cartels the facilities and resources of the church?

It raises the question of what can churches do for those seeking to escape a bad environment and want a better life for their children? Is there a way for Catholic parishes to legally sponsor families seeking a better, new way of life in the United States? As parishes can we assist families with the legalities of immigrating to the United States, provide/direct them to jobs/employment where they are also supporting themselves and their new community? Can members of the parish, working together, provide education to children as they learn a new language.

Catholic communities could also monetarily support the poor in their home country as these families await the paperwork and legalities of immigrating to their new home. I believe Catholics, as a whole, support legal immigration and are more than willing--would even be proud--to lend a hand which legally helps those (especially the poor) realize their dreams for themselves and their children.

Bishops should keep their noses out of the business of the Department of Homeland Security and instead be working with immigration on what his Catholic parish can do to assist those who want to legally immigrate into the United States. US Bishops and Archbishops have contact with other Bishops and Archbishops around the world, and such affiliations would be an efficient way to help immigrants with the legalities needed to make their move anywhere in the world.

Bishops: What is required when a penitent breaks any other law? Restitution. How many priests believe it is right to forgive immigrants for entering a country illegally without them having to first make things right with the authorities, as is the case for other crimes?

I wish I knew. I really don't have any knowledge of what the Church does, outside of my own parish. My own assets can only stretch so far, and they work very hard protecting the vulnerable within my reach.

We do that already...worldwide. The "State" often hates us for it. Nothing new.
