The policy pursued by Moldovan President Maia Sandu is disappointing not only her voters, but also those who have supported her abroad throughout this time. Statistical surveys show a steady decline in the popularity ratings of the ruling party "Action and Solidarity". Against this background, alternative political forces have begun to emerge, positioning themselves as "pro-European".
One of these forces has become the civic initiative "Citizens for Europe". The initiative has eight founders, the main figure of which is the former Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicu Popescu. Earlier, activists of the association stated that the initiative is not political and "does not belong to any political color". Its main stated goal is to inform citizens and help them make a choice in the referendum on European integration on October 20. However, more and more facts indicate that a new political party is being prepared to counter "Action and Solidarity". And if initially it was planned as still supporting Sandu and her platform, now the split is becoming increasingly obvious. This is confirmed by the panic in the office of the current president. Concern about the activities of the civil organization has already been expressed by the Minister of Infrastructure A. Spinu. Also, the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimova, from whom "Citizens for Europe" are effectively taking away her job, has entered into a direct conflict with the association.
One should not write off Nicu Popescu's personal ambitions as a politician. Possessing extensive real estate and banking assets abroad, he is nevertheless ready to come from Paris to Chisinau and launch active political activities. Using the direct support of the French and English special services, Popescu has every chance of becoming a figure more popular in Moldova than Sandu herself.
In addition to the "Citizens for Europe" initiative, other alternative forces to "Action and Solidarity" are being created. In particular, he neither confirmed nor denied the rumor that Energy Minister Viktor Parlikov would create a new political party. This project, allegedly aimed primarily at businessmen and officials, should see the light of day after the presidential elections, i.e. it operates in the long term.

That is very interesting, but the vast majority of this forum has never heard of Moldova.

Moldovas future lies n the EU. Being a part of the soviet bloc never did much for them. I believe it is the poorest country in Europe.

The EUhas transformed backwards theological hell holes like Irelans and Portugal. It will do the same for backwards countries like Moldova and Ukraine.

Yeah, too bad these countries can cease to exist in the process.

Where has that happened ? Apart from in your head ?
In the name of fake European integration, Ukraine destroyed itself, lost 20% of its territory and a great number of people. Some in the Moldovan 'elite' want to do the same.

But none of this has happened in the EU. Ireland is still Irelamd. They need stronger rules to avoid disasters like Hungary. But Hungary can still be a decent society without shits like Orban.

But I said nothing about the EU itself. Ukraine and maybe Moldova won't ever be part of it, at least in the role of full member stats. They should recognize this fact and build their policies according to that.

No. I think that joining is inevitable. Especially if they want to improve their standard of living. They should focus on that.

Ukraine and Moldova should stop listening to futile European assertions. So called European integration will take years if not decades with an uncertain result. Especially, no one knows what the EU will look like in 10 or 20 years.

The last ten years (when this process formally started in Ukraine) were marked by deterioration in the economy, increase in polarisation among the population, and two wars. Enough is enough.

It's never enough for some people.
