As i've said many times, if Trunp holds the line he will get most of what he wants be it market access to dairy, fair financial/banking access, telecom etc. This is just one of many such issues and Canada may have purposely pushed the tax hard knowing they could then just walk back the idea, let Trunp claim a small win while Canada protects what they really want to protect from U.S competition. Canadian authorities might be better negotiators than I first assumed. Covert police states are expensive and Canada doesnt want a slew of 301 investigations by the U.S which might expose any nefarious practices. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/digital-services-tax-trade-discussions-1.7574001.
The federal government announced late Sunday evening it is rescinding the digital services tax, days after U.S. President Donald Trump demanded it gone and cut off Canada-U.S. trade negotiations.
In a press release, the federal government said it would rescind the tax "in anticipation of a mutually beneficial comprehensive trade arrangement with the United States."
"Prime Minister Carney and President Trump have agreed that parties will resume negotiations with a view towards agreeing on a deal by July 21, 2025," the press release added
