I remember one of the big talking points in favor of legalizing marijuana in California being the idea that the state could bring in a lot of tax revenue by taxing legally-produced and sold marijuana. We were supposed to believe that there was a huge portion of the population that wanted to use this shit, and only refrained from it because it was illegal, and that this new market would gladly pay heavy taxes on legal marijuana.

I guess it turns out that all the cultural effort to make that true notwithstanding, it remains, for the most part, only those who are generally criminally-inclined anyway who really want to smoke this crap, and that the illegal market is managing to provide better product at lower prices to them than the legally, heavily-taxed market is. Even in California, it seems that the vast majority of us still have enough sense to not poison ourselves with this shit, regardless of whether it is legal or not to do so. The huge market of law-abiding citizens who would pay high taxes on drugs just to be able to use them legally seems not to have ever existed; so of course, an industry set up to cater to this nonexistent market is proving not to be sustainable. The scumbags who used this crap while it was illegal are, for the most part, the only ones using it now that it is legal, and they are still going to the same illegal sources to get it that they were before.

In before the the retarded states sic their "revenuers" on them.

They better roll heavy, especially in OR as I understand it's like the wild west in some areas there.

I guess what was old is new again....There were places the law just did not go in my AO back in the day. The moonshiners would put a .30-30 round through you if you fucked with them.

The problem is that the democrats are more interested in importing illegal aliens, and along with the illegals come massive amounts of illegal drugs. To shut down the drug flow, they would have to stop the human trafficking flow - and democrats will NEVER do that.

Because they TAX the SHIT out of it.

$9.25/ounce 'cultivation tax' PLUS another 22.5% tax on retail sales for recreational pot.

Recently was in Colorado. The Mrs. likes a little puff puff so we went to the local dispensary.

$200/ounce

California is probably not much different.

Why wouldn't a person revisit their old dealer?

I mean shit...a dealer could sell you an ounce for $150 and STILL be cutting you a 25% discount.

Just goes to show...government cannot run anything...and politicians are politicians because they can do nothing else for the most part.

So now the pot companies want the government to subsidize them with taxpayer's money? :laughing0301:

Sometimes you just need to sit back and appreciate the CA Clown Show.

Well, they are the "entertainment" state. How bored would we be if it weren't for California's movies, tv shows, music, and assorted left-wing clowns?

Legal weed is too expensive.

Everyone buys the illegal stuff like the always did.

All legalization did is add another level of bureaucracy.

In addition to that, the drug cartels don't like competition. They're not only trying to move in on the legal growers and sellers, they're also increasing their own production, lowering their own prices, and ramping up on the production and sales of other drugs to make up for their lost revenue.

Yep. Dems gonna Dem.

Fuck up legal weed by OVER TAXING it.

Dems say, "If we tax at 50% instead of 25%, we double the revenue!!!"

DERP DERP DERP DERP

They are dumb as fuck.
