What ends ALL epidemics is that the initial spike uses up too many easy host, the virus runs out, and you quickly achieve herd immunity.
So why did that not happen with covid-19?
Well for SOME bizarre reason, the whole world got on the bandwagon to "flatten the curve" instead.
And that is just crazy.
No epidemiologist would ever suggest such a thing because it not only prevents herd immunity, but it can easily cause any epidemic to essentially last FOREVER!
What it does is conserve easy hosts.
Then the epidemic never has to end.
You end up with death totals 10 to 100 times greater.
With epidemics, time is of the essence.
You never want to give any epidemic more time.
But social distancing does just that.
The tried and true alternative actually is variolation, (deliberate infection of the healthy).

I disagree. You couldn't wait for "Herd Immunity" like the flu because this was so much more deadly than the flu. An average flu season, 100 million people get it and 12,000 die. A very small mortality rate of about .01%. And we usually have vaccines for flu season before it starts, most people just refuse to take them.

Covid has a mortality rate of 2%. If you allowed 100MM people to get it all at once, that would have been 2 million dead before you hit "Herd Immunity". In fact, it would have been a lot higher because the hospitals would have been overwhelmed, there wouldn't have been enough doctors or ventilators to go around.

More importantly, there are all the things Trump did that were wrong.

He downplayed the severity of the problem, not wanting to spook the markets.
he used a lot of racist rhetoric to blame Asians for the disease, and we've seen a spike of anti-Asian hate crimes.
He made mask wearing a cultural issue when it never should have been.
