Seriously doubt this will get enough coverage here in the States. But it SHOULD. Because we all should learn from the mistakes being made in the EU. Housing people in camps for a year is really a non-starter. And putting them together in camps when obviously the vetting and security is lacking is dangerous.
We have our own shameful camps -- existing up to 3 years now for all those unescorted minors that were/are flooding up from Central Amer. Conditions THERE are extremely bad. If there is no plan to move folks in PROPERLY --- don't trust the government to warehouse people.
Dusseldorf exhibition hall housing refugees destroyed by fire
German police have arrested a number of refugees after a building sheltering some 160 asylum seekers on the grounds of the Dusseldorf Exhibition Centre was destroyed by fire on Tuesday.
Local media reported migrants, mainly men, have been housed in the spare building since late last year. While Building 18 was officially hosting 160 migrants, more than 250 were reportedly evacuated by fire crews.
It took more than 70 firefighters to bring the blaze under control, The Wall Street Journal reported. The cause of the blaze has not been identified.
The exhibition complex is currently hosting Drupa, a major international trade fair visited by an estimated 300,000 people, including dozens of Australian printers, graphics industry professionals and business executives.
Local media reported two migrants had been arrested and up to six were being questioned by police.
It is not the first time a migrant shelter has been set on fire in Germany.
A frustrated Syrian refugee set fire to his new home in April to protest "cramped conditions". He reportedly confessed to the arson attack, but not before pro-immigration commentators blamed right-wing activists for the blaze.
In February a fire destroyed a planned refugee shelter in the town of Bautzen, while there have been many reports of anti-immigration activists vandalising migrant shelters across the country.
