Broken gas caps ???

I had a broken gas cap today
I drove over to the dealer and paid $36 dollars for a new one and luckily they installed it

They said it breaks ( older car ) due to heat of Vegas

I sometime turn the gas cap so it clicks 4-5 times because I like that sound

Am I breaking it or is it the sun

When my gas cap broke, they advised me that I didn't need to turn it to the point where it clicked "multiple" times.

I suspect two clicks are fine. I just do it once now and it seems fine.

Why would you pay a dealer $36 for a gas cap when you can buy one at the parts store for $9.

It clicks to prevent overtightening, kinda like a torque wrench.

My current vehicle doesn't even have a gas cap. It only has the little door that matches the rest of the car where the gas gets inserted.

You could have bought one for as lot less at an auto parts store.

None of my vehicles have gas caps.

Fortunately, my new car doesn't have a gas cap, and I don't mind getting wet.
