The austerity policies of the Conservative Gov from 2010 led to police numbers falling to an unacceptable level and a recruitment drive was started in 2016. On 9 March, Wayne Couzens, a Metropolitan Police officer with the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection unit, was arrested in Deal, Kent, firstly on suspicion of Everard's kidnapping and later on suspicion of her murder. On 10 March, her remains were discovered in woodland near Ashford, Kent. Couzens was charged with kidnapping and murder two days later, following identification of the remains as those of Everard. Another 2 serving police officers have been convicted of rape and sexual assault and a third is facing similar charges, all unconnected. Another drunken policeman was convicted of assaulting a woman in the street a few yards from her home.

All this has caused an undermining of confidence in the Police, particularly by women, and has resulted in a spate of protests and vigils for Sarah Everard, one of which in Clapham led to four arrests for a breach of lockdown rules.

The Police are there to uphold and enforce the law when and where applicable. To do that they must have colour blind neutrality in their disposition in dealing with the public. Had they checked with his school they would have been told by a former teacher of Hannam that he was shocked the student displayed such overt racism but they obviously didn't.

Why do you find that funny? Particularly when racism is tearing your country apart. Why do some white folk think black folk is in any way inferior and why do they delight in letting the black folk know they think them inferior?

This particular case seems weird. They say all this far right stuff happened BEFORE he became a police officer.

But yes, it shows that the Tories are willing to put their own interests first, second, third and last before the interests of the UK.

In London, for example, they're cutting funding (after Boris spaffed millions up the wall on the Garden Bridge among many other bad policies) so that policing is impacted and crime increases so they can blame it on Khan, which they do a lot.

It's incredible that people fall for all this nonsense from the Tories.

Instances of police misconduct seem to have been rising for a few years now and I think that probably reflects the tone of the country. We have a racist shit of a prime minister and have just had an essentially racist referendum. Add in Windrush and Grenfell and covid death tolls and its clear that the UK is regressing.

Last year the Met was humiliated for stopping black folks in nice cars for no reason. One of those highlighted was an MP and another was an Olympic athlete. Who knows what the extent of this is but I am aware through my own family that it is more widespread than white folk are aware of.

A few weeks ago the home office was forced to apologise to a black barrister who was refused entrance to a court room where he was representing the accused. The court officials assumed that he was the accused.

Of course in the middle of all this johnsons gang of uncle toms have declared that the UK is post racism. That will never be the case whilst right wing trash run the country.
