a friend told me that 1/2 of these are state government jobs and many are HI1B. If true, that sounds like Bidenomics and that is certainly not anything to celebrate.

They fire masses of them when they get 11 months in, before they can qualify for unemployment bennies, then tell them to 're-apply' in 60 days, then they snivel and claim they need green cards when many of those they laid off move somewhere else and don't re-apply. Intel used to do the same thing at their fab plants, and Texas Instruments was notorious for similar practices. I asked one of my town councilmen yesterday and he told me they hired 35 Summer workers (mostly young adults going to college and a handfull of HS kids) and they will be laid off as college/school starts back up around Labor Day.

He heard the county hired about the same amount.

The OP said most of the .gov hiring was state/local so I suspect (unless he was lying) that accounts for it. It's pretty much SOP for towns/counties to hire Summer help around June.
