Breaking Bad. Top of the List.

Said it before, it is virtually a perfect TV show. By the books, and the result.
The best TV series are those that were designed to be X number of seasons/episodes - and they stuck with it.
A perfect example of how not to do it - is The Walking Dead. Started out fantastic. So good. The show should have only been 5, maybe 6 seasons. By then, the show became a soap opera. Talking talking talking talking talking talking... oh.. better show a couple zombies.... okay back to talking talking...

These shows are made to sell ad time, not make great art. Not that the vast majority of viewers can tell the difference.

And how do they get/maintain ad time?

By keeping viewers watching the show. It ran what, 11 seasons before it was unprofitable.

Some shows that did well get canceled anyway, if a network thinks a better show will replace it.

Crime Story got canceled after two seasons because the network liked the Miami Vice series better and they didn't need two cop shows at the time.

No one is going to rewatch The Walking Dead all the way through. I can definitely see people watching the first seasons, hell I might some day. But BB is a highly rewatched series. We have watched the entire show twice. And I would very much bet we will again some years from now.

I watched BB while it was a weekly show and then binged watched a few years after it ended

Much easier to follow when you binge watch

Well, the show has it's own channel now, and has several spin offs, so I would say it's doing pretty well, generating residuals for years to come.

I waited until December of 2022 before I watched it on Netflix, I was sick with Covid and really felt miserable and also binge watched, and I barely remember how sick I was (and I felt terrible) because of how good this series was.

I didn;t want it to end and took my time towards the end, finishing the series in about a month.
