There were armed security to prevent theft by Hamas. But when ordinary Gaza residents - starving due to Hama's constant stealing of aid - stormed the compound, the aid workers and their security fell back, leaving the people to sort the food among themselves.



Sadly, these rations will only last a few days. Hamas must be convinced to surrender, but I fear their sponsors in oil-rich Muslim nations will keep paying them to perpetuate the famine they have created in that region.

Israel and the United States are the ones who brought in the food that the Arabs of Gaza were actually given, unlike the U.N. food, which the Arabs wind up having to buy from Hamas at absurd prices.

The official policy is to distribute aid in a way that does not benefit Hamas and prolong the war. In the three months of the blockade, Hamas was unable to pay its fighters because it did not enjoy the profits from stolen aid that was then resold to noncombatants.
