Boycott Israel

The occupied territories are the legitimate spoils of a just war provoked by the Arabs in an effort to destroy Israel. The occupied territories should have been formally annexed right after Israel's victory in the 1967 Six Days War. Few Americans would have protested. We were too busy celebrating Israel's glorious victory.

Someone say Israel boycott?

United Nations A/HRC/47/NGO/73 General Assembly Distr.: General 8 June 2021

Written statement* submitted by United Nations Watch, a non-governmental organization in special consultative status The Secretary-General has received the following written statement which is circulated in accordance with Economic and Social Council resolution 1996/31. [30 May 2021]

Violence Against Women in Palestinian Society United Nations Watch is concerned about the prevalence of violence against women in the territories under Palestinian Authority (PA) and Hamas control and the perpetuation of a false narrative that somehow blames Israel. Violence against women in the West Bank and Gaza Strip is widespread. The PA has even broadcast TV programs encouraging wife-beating.1 The 2016 report of the Special Rapporteur on violence against women noted that Palestinian women “suffer under a system of violence emanating from the tradition and culture, with embedded patriarchal social norms and multiple outdated legal frameworks,”2 and expressed specific concern about honor killings, domestic violence and sexual violence.3 In its 2018 concluding observations on the State of Palestine, the UN Committee which monitors the Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) expressed concern about “the high prevalence of gender-based violence against women, in particular so-called ‘honor killings’ and domestic and sexual violence, which remain socially accepted and underreported due to the stigma suffered by victims.”4 Notably, while the PA acceded to CEDAW in 2014, at least two Palestinian government entities—the Supreme Fatwa Council and the Supreme Commission of Tribal Affairs— oppose compliance with CEDAW.5

The issue of honor killings made headlines in 2019 when Israa Ghrayeb, a 21-year-old woman, was pushed out of a window and then beaten to death in the hospital by family members who were incensed by a photo she had had shared on Instagram of herself with a man.6 Palestinian women’s rights groups documented 11 killings of women in the first four months of 2020 alone,7 at least 18 killings in the first nine months of 2019 and 23 killings in 2018.8 However, because there are no reliable statistics on gendered violence due to underreporting, the numbers are likely higher.9 COVID-19 lockdowns have exacerbated the problem.10

I am confident that nearly everyone in the West who sides with the Palestinians against Israel would rather live in Israel than in any Arab country in the world.

Victory: Middle East Anthropologists Overwhelmingly Support Boycott of Israeli Academic Institutions

Anthropologists of the Middle East have voted overwhelmingly to support the boycott of Israeli academic institutions. In a special referendum held June 2-11 by the Middle East Section of the American Anthropological Association, a boycott resolution passed 157 to 11, with 71% of the membership participating.

Anthropologists for the Boycott of Israeli Academic Institutions (Anthroboycott) submitted the resolution during Israel’s assault on the Gaza Strip last month. The boycott represents an act of solidarity from scholars specializing on the region, many of whom have long studied U.S. support for Israel’s colonial practices and violent suppression of the Palestinian people.

German Parliament declares Israel boycott antisemitic: “With overwhelming support, the German parliament, or Bundestag, passed a resolution declaring, “The arguments and methods of the BDS [Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions] Movement are anti-Semitic.” The resolution explained that the tactics of the BDS campaign “inevitably arouse associations with the Nazi slogan ‘Kauft nicht bei Juden!’” – “Don’t buy from Jews!”

50 US governors: 50 rejections of BDS

“We, the undersigned Governors, reject efforts to demonize and delegitimize Israel—America’s democratic ally in the Middle East— through the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement.

The goals of the BDS movement are antithetical to our values and the values of our respective states. They seek to isolate Israel—a pluralistic nation with deep cultural, familial, security, educational, scientific and commercial bonds with our state and with the United States as a whole—rather than recognize the profound mutual benefits of our engagement with it. They malign a trusted ally that, while forced to defend itself against repeated and ongoing attempts to annihilate it, has consistently extended its hand in peace to its Palestinian neighbors and to states across the Middle East and around the world.

Israel is a robust democracy with many rights and freedoms that do not exist in neighboring countries—or in much of the world. Yet, while fundamental rights are trampled and atrocities are committed routinely not far beyond its borders, BDS supporters focus only on Israel. Israel’s policies, like the policies of any nation, may be subject to criticism and debate, but the BDS movement’s single-minded focus on the Jewish State raises serious questions about its motivations and intentions.

At this critical time, in the face of the virulent movement to promote anti-Israel boycotts both in this country and around the globe, we strongly condemn the BDS movement as incompatible with the values of our states and our country. Likewise, we reaffirm our support for Israel as a vital U.S. ally, important economic partner and champion of freedom.”

I doubt any of these anthropologists would rather live in an Arab country than in Israel.

A Lebanese runner and Hezbollah supporter pulled out of a race in an international competition taking place in Poland after he discovered that an athlete from Israel would also be participating.

Mazen Chreim was set to compete in the World Athletics Masters Indoor Championships in Toruń, Poland, from March 26-April 1 in the 200 meter, 400 meter and triple jump races in the age category for athletes between 40-44 years old. However, he withdrew from the 200 meter that was scheduled for day two of the competition because the race included an Israeli runner, the Iranian-owned news network Press TV reported on Friday.

US House of Representatives Resolution denouncing boycott of Israel as antisemitic

Whereas the democratic, Jewish State of Israel is a key ally and strategic partner of the United States;

Whereas the Global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement (BDS Movement) targeting Israel is a campaign that does not favor a two-state solution and that seeks to exclude the State of Israel and the Israeli people from the economic, cultural, and academic life of the rest of the world;

Whereas the Global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement is one of several recent political movements that undermines the possibility for a negotiated solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by demanding concessions of one party alone and encouraging the Palestinians to reject negotiations in favor of international pressure;

Whereas the founder of the Global BDS Movement, Omar Barghouti, has denied the right of the Jewish people in their homeland, saying, “We oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No Palestinian, rational Palestinian, not a sell-out Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”;

Whereas the Global BDS Movement does not recognize, and many of its supporters explicitly deny, the right of the Jewish people to national self-determination;

Whereas in contrast to protest movements that have sought racial justice and social change, the Global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement targeting Israel is not about promoting coexistence, civil rights, and political reconciliation but about questioning and undermining the very legitimacy of the country and its people

Resolved, That the House of Representatives—

(1) opposes the Global Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions Movement (BDS Movement) targeting Israel, including efforts to target United States companies that are engaged in commercial activities that are legal under United States law, and all efforts to delegitimize the State of Israel;

French High Court: Boycotting Israel is a hate crime

“France’s highest court of appeals confirmed earlier rulings that found promoters of a boycott against Israel guilty of inciting hate or discrimination.

In France, several dozen promoters of a boycott against Israel — including through the Boycott, Sanctions and Divestment Movement, or BDS —- have been convicted of inciting hate or discrimination. In addition to the law on the press, some activists have been convicted based on the Lellouche law, passed in 2003, which extends anti-racism laws to the targeting of specific nations for discriminatory treatment.”

“BDS is illegal in France,” wrote Pascal Makowicz, head of the legal department of the CRIF umbrella group of French Jewish communities, in a statement he published Tuesday on the group’s website. The actions of the people convicted, he added, “are completely illegal. If they say their freedom of expression has been violated, then now France’s highest legal instance ruled otherwise.”

The haters are now demanding Trader Joe's stop selling matzoh made in Israel

This Mondoweiss article reads like a parody:

Trader Joe’s prides itself on delivering great products at fair prices. And we agree that they deliver on that promise. So, when we saw that our favorite food store is now selling Passover Matzo made in Israel we had to act.

Trader Joe’s also has a reputation for being responsive to customers, so we started this campaign to tell them how disappointed we are in their decision to sell house branded Matzo prominently marked as a “product of Israel” or any other products labeled as “made in Israel.”

In support of the Palestinian Civil Society’s call to boycott all Israeli products, we never purchase Israeli-made products at Trader Joe’s or anywhere else, but that no longer feels like enough. It is important that we tell stores, and the good people who work in them, why we boycott Israel and how badly it reflects on stores when they sell products made in Apartheid Israel.

We hope that many people will join us by printing out this note to Trader Joe’s, signing it, and giving it to a manager in every Trader Joe’s that you shop in:

The funniest part of the Mondoweiss article was a selfie of co-author Seth Morrison smiling in front of the matzoh display with his "Palestine 1948" T-shirt. His smile makes it look like he is promoting the matzoh, not boycotting it!

This is way beyond activism and well into obsession territory. No one on Earth thinks that Palestinians are helped one iota from these ridiculous stunts, and it is obvious to all who care to think about it that this is not animated by concern for Palestinian human rights but visceral hate for the Jewish state.

Trader Joe's sells other Israeli products, including their own branded Bamba snack and "Israeli Feta Cheese." Horrors!

I can't wait for Sukkot when the haters start a campaign to boycott Israeli etrogim.

If there was a Trader Joe store in my area I would shop there and stock up on food made in Israel.

What about the illegal effort by Egypt and Syria in 1967 to destroy Israel? When Egypt threatened to destroy Israel the so called "UN Peace Keeping Force" fled.

All of Israel, plus the land the Israeli Army conquered in a just war is less than one percent of Arab land. We should encourage Israel to annex the land conquered, and tell the Palestinians to move.

The Palestinians supported our enemies during the Second World War, the Cold War, and the Gulf War. This is how they responded to 9/11:

Palestine didn‘t exist in 1948. Palestine was Britain’s English name for the British Mandate, and British Mandate Palestine ceased to exist in 1948 with Israeli statehood.
