Khomeini executed thousands of government workers after he took over. I knew well a former schoolteacher from Iran who told me he was called into the Khomeini cabal due to what he taught. And he was very worried he would be executed since the Muslims executed many and not so much as had trials for them. He was smart and kept telling them what they wanted to hear but fearing he would still be executed, he escaped Iran. I knew, not very well, a man who had been the head of police communications for the Shah and retired 5 years ahead of the terror reign of Khomeini and still after seeing his fellow workers get executed figured retirement under the Shah would not save him, so he fled.
