As long as China and India trade with Russia, the West isn't going to win this. A partition plan is the most logical move now.

Does it "reward" Putin? You could view it that way, but then again, we did something similar in Korea. We could have chosen to try and push the Communists completely out of Korea, but it would have come at a really high cost in terms of money and lives.

Ukraine has become kind of similar. The areas that Putin controls have large ethnically Russian populations that are loyal to Russia instead of Ukraine. If we did manage to push Russia out of those regions now, we'd probably have years of insurgency to deal with.

For all practical purposes, Crimea and the Donbas (for the most part) are Russia.

Doubtful. Even if the US completely withdrew from NATO, Russia would have a tough time taking the areas west of the Donbas. Kyiv is most certainly out of reach.

The Baltic states are part of NATO, so invading them would end up as a world war. Putin doesn't want that. He might have been willing to risk escalation with the Ukraine invasion, but it wouldn't strategically make sense to aim for the Baltic states.

Putin's best case scenario is that he somehow advances a little further west into Ukraine. More likely, the stalemate will continue until both sides run out of money or lives. Ukraine is set to run out of lives before anyone else, but Russia isn't far behind.

We need to approach the Ukraine situation with realism and understanding of some basic facts:

One Ukraine is not capable of defeating Russia military.

Two neither Putin, or any other likely Russian leader has any qualms about invading a smaller weaker country in order to benefit themselves.

Three Ukraine is not a great democracy, nor is it a Haven of freedom in which minorities are never persecuted. One would find little difference living in Ukraine as a disfavored person compared to living in Russia as a disfavored person.

Four What little Democratic process Ukraine had was ended by the current president who shows no sign of ever allowing anything to stop him from becoming a lifetime dictator.

Five no benefit would accrue to the United States from any further assistance to Ukraine in that war. Certainly there would be no benefit in spending American lives after having spent so many American dollars.

Six in the unlikely event, we made the horrible decision to go to war in Ukraine, Russia would have no obligation to keep the war confined to the borders of Ukraine. All American territory, and all American people would be considered legitimate targets by Putin or whoever takes over from Putin.

Seven under the current administration, our military has been allowed to deteriorate into a shit show of wokeism and DEI.

Now that you have the fax, what is your opinion about the United States giving further aid to Ukraine?
