• Families of the victims called Jones's actions "cruel" and alleged the former school bus aide showed a lack of "humanity"

The statement said “a criminal investigation was launched after a parent of a nonverbal boy with autism said her son came home with bruises on his foot that were not there the previous day” and asked the school to show her surveillance video from the bus’s security camera. “The director reviewed footage and discovered the boy had been physically assaulted on the bus by Jones,” the statement said. “Further review of bus security footage revealed Jones assaulted the same nonverbal student on multiple occasions dating back to February 2024.”

Jones is set to be sentenced on March 18 and faces up to 15 years in prison, the district attorney’s office said in its statement.

My niece drives a school bus and I think every bus that transports special kids must have an aid.

Student transportation in Florida had aids for all their buses back when I drove one.

My aid was from Jamaica. Most of my students were black. A handful of white students sat in the back. One day, after taking a day off, I saw one of the white kids sitting in front. After dropping them off at school, I asked the aid what she had done.

"She was showing her sunburn to the other students," the aid said. "Inappropriate behavior."

"Is that so?" I asked.

"Yes."

"Did she show them her panties?"

"No."

"Her bra?"

"No."

"Anything provocative?"

"No."

"So you punished her just for showing off her sunburn?" I asked.

She didn't answer.

That afternoon, when I picked the students up, I told the kid to sit in back with her friends.
