Why is this black lady so fragile. You would think that if a black doll costs more than a white doll that shows demand is higher. Of course she would complain if the price tag of the white doll was higher.

Walmart Apologizes After Black Mom Noticed Price Difference Between White And Black Dolls

Walmart has apologized to a Black mom in Kentucky after she said Black dolls were priced much higher than white ones. Asheria Brown of Florence, Kentucky, called out the national retailer after her oldest daughter went searching for a Kid Connection Doll set, WCPO Cincinnati reports. Because Brown wanted her daughter to have more exposure to dolls with their heritage, she sought out the same set with Black dolls and noticed a price difference.

The mother was right

It is the same set
Logically, yes. It is easy to understand how the Walmart price setting algorithm would make that error. With literally millions of skews, mostly priced by the computer, it is unlikely the computer knows the significance of one widget from another (at least until there is a sale history), except possibly in terms of size projected market, and desired return for having that item in stock. A human would, but with millions of widgets, it probably makes a recommendation that must be overridden.

So what? Lots of same set items cost differently relative to demand which can be based on color schemes.

At some point, a human enters the equation.
A manager or department head who is stocking the inventory and listing the prices should notice that this is the same product

Yes it does, and now it has. I would not be expecting Walmart to junk their system of computer automated pricing new widgets coming into the system any time, soon.

Well, I hope Wal-Mart raised the price of its white dolls to match the price of its black ones.

White people should be the ones complaining here, since wal mart is devaluing the white dolls. Wal mart is making it appear that whites are worth less than blacks. Any economist can tell you that higher prices imply higher value.
