Birth control in China

China is taxing condoms and birth control to have more children. I just wanted to know what people think.
Still vastly overpopulated.........1B people, yes China is huge but many parts like the Gobi nobody does

India needs the one child only for about the next 50 years

There are many countries that need that. And it isnt just for population control 😂

There are MANY who suggest that they have been inflating their numbers for decades. This is especially true when considering how long they had their 1 child policy and infanticide.

There is no way a nation can expand as they have suggested when they are forced to have one child.

The lowest estimate I saw from a semi-credible source was 400M. It should be closer to 800M-1B, but also an aging population for certain.

Think about the replacement child amount just to maintain 1B and China put the restrictions on for a very long time. How many dont have kids, or die by disease etc before they mate?

won't make a difference. people won't stop using birth control and risk unwanted pregnancies simply to avoid a tax. That's just stupid.

that's obviously untrue. that would mean the USA only has slightly smaller population than China....
  • Births continue to decline: e.g., 7.92 million births in 2025 — the lowest number since 1949.
  • Deaths are rising, with 11.31 million deaths in 2025.
  • The fertility rate is ~1.0 or less, well below the ~2.1 needed for generation replacement.

So the natural growth rate (births minus deaths) is negative and increasing in magnitude
This is not taking into account Sars, Covid or the increase of women in the workforce not having kids.

2100 projection: significant decline toward ~900 million – 1.1 billion

Why This Decline Occurs: Legacy of One Child Policy, Rising Deaths from an Aging Population, Low Fertility from Social/Economic Trends

ok, so you'd agree that suggesting that the "real" population of China is 400m.....

whatever "semi-credible source" you got that from is just making crap up

I said that is the extreme and a well known speaker of China who is on youtube. I watch so many people from all around the world that I forget her name.

She suggested that there are dissidents claiming that China is far lower in population and the deaths during covids were many 10s of millions as an example. Even she didnt agree but she shared it.

I would estimate they are significantly lower than 1.4B for sure, just considering their history of disinformation, poor tracking of facts and deliberate deception such as that which they apply with companies and accounting, their GDP %.

The usual Falun Gong crap - when will you ever learn? - NEVER.

They have more then enough people - right now.

The CPC has also in view of a declining population set a target to maintain a level of around 1.200 Billion people by 2070.

It maintains it's view that by 2100 an economic viable population outlook is targeted at not more then 1.1 Billion people.
Which would actually exceed the workforce needed or is employable due to automation and AI.

As usual the CPC uses long forecast trends and policies, focused onto to per/head GDP, to meet the challenges of the future.

You sound like a future collaborator. Duly noted.
You sound like a dolt - who simply dislikes China for no other reason - then mindless bashing.
And sucks up his faulty knowledge solely via Falun Gong and anti-Chinese/CPC groups.

I lived & worked mostly there (Government related) and in the immediate region from 2002 - 2024, and YOU?

As the world's second largest economy, it has reached a point where the population starts declining sharply. Young Chinese people have a high unemployment rate over 20% and they are less likely to start a family. Child rearing is expensive and burdensome in China.

China is one of the most expensive countries in which to raise a child, according to a 2024 report by the YuWa Population Research Institute in Beijing. Costs are pushed up by school fees in a highly competitive academic environment, and the challenge women have juggling work and parenting, the study said.

The economic slowdown, partly brought on by a property crisis that has hit savings, has left families, and especially young people, feeling uncertain or less confident about their future.

China has a large aging population and not enough young workers to support them. We have similar problem with SS but Chinas is far worse. For years they encouraged females to be adopted limiting their birthrate.
As of early 2026, China has an rapidly aging, shrinking population with a median age of approximately 40.6 years. Roughly 68% of the population is in the 15–64 working-age group, while over 15% are aged 65 or older. The nation faces a significant demographic shift, with declining births and a rising elderly population, leading to an increased old-age dependency ratio.

I'm surprised they are not outright making these items illegal.

That's the usual and customary way China handles these sorts of issues.

The story of how they resolved their opium epidemic is chilling.

China likely has about half of the population they claim....
And it is an inverted pyramid of demographic ages with children being the small end of the trapezoidal shape.

So far, not much has worked in any nation for kickstarting their population growth.

People simply refuse to have children during uncertain economic times. Guys especially refuse when they are uncertain about their future. (Responsibility of finances always is the guy's)

So....
Nobodybiscgoing to have children when they can barely afford to live much less afford the tutors children require. (Competition based education....you have to perform better than your peers in order to get advanced education...like high school. )
