What is the best southern warm state to move to/ travel to?

I want to relocate to a warm southern state either long term or temporary for a year or two as a long extended travel stay, which one is the best one?

...considering...
Cost of living
less threat of natural disasters like hurricanes/ tornados
Insurance cost
Housing costs
Employment and job opportunity/ good paying jobs

Possible states considered:
Arizona
Florida
Texas
Georgia
Louisana
Alabama

I once knew a guy I worked with at a past job that lived his life as a drifter. He never stayed in one state or town for too long. He was a job hopper and a drifter from state to state. He said he lived both in Florida and Arizona, but between the two he through Phoenix, Arizona was much better than any city in Florida for many reasons. He said no hurricanes and a lot less rain. Cost of living lower in Arizona. He also said jobs seemed better in the Phoenix Arizona area. He also said Phoenix had a great transportation system and there was no need to own a car which is a big plus considering how expensive car ownership can be.

So I been leaning more toward Phoenix Arizona???

...but what are your opinions?

I'm interested as well. If the Security Industrial Complex decide to allow me to sell my home I have to consider down south.

Since I have some work connections with Florida, it might be where I move. No way in hell I move without some money though so that I can be free to live. So many of my years stolen...sigh

Can you stand heat? I've lived in Arizona for over 40 years and I wouldn't live anywhere else. But get ready for 100-110 degrees for months at a time. Phoenix has a great light rail system that gets you all around the city very well. Depending on what you do there are jobs but don't expect high pay.

"But it's a dry heat", everyone always says. :laughing0301:

Rhode Island is a southern state, but I don’t recommend moving there.

I don't see anything of redeeming value in that list.

Virginia is a pretty safe state with temperate weather.....Four real seasons, three regions to choose from. Not much in the way of natural disasters.

As far as AZ.

Its 109 here and we have power outages. MAGA!

Whut??

I like Nevada, even though it does have its cold spells in winter. I guess I'm just attracted to crazy.

I lived in Phoenix. Get a car. About the only place I have lived where you can get by without a car is New York City. And even then, it's probably good to have one.

You can check the internet for your entire list, going one-by-one. I find the south and Midwest are going to have cheaper housing than the west or northeast. Indiana is sort of unique in the Midwest in that it offers lower housing (and rental) costs than places like Iowa, WI, and MN.

Please don't move to Georgia. We have too many damned yankees here already.

North Carolina is not even on your list, what a shame. The above picture is downtown Hickory, NC, rated in 2023 as the cheapest city in America to live in by US News and World Report. About an hour from Charlotte, an hour from Asheville, and an hour from Winston Salem.

Located in the foothills, the climate is pleasant and there is little chance of natural disasters. Although there is an old saying, "Don't like the weather in Western NC, just wait ten minutes, it will change".

Tennessee should be on the list as well. Good roads, no state income tax, and relatively low cost of living vx salaries.

Because, it's not so much about the costs as it is salaries vx costs. (Labor shortages) meaning you get paid a reasonable wage vx the cost of living.

And the cities there range from Memphis (on the Mississippi River) to the Appalachians and bordering to Virginia in the East in Bristol. (Nascar races)
Nashville in the center has music and stage productions everywhere.

Just depends upon the environment you want in a city to live near.
