Munson’s History

Munson’s Chocolates was founded by Ben and Josephine Munson in 1946 and originally titled “The Dandy Candy Company.” With little more than a dream, they set out to build a business that would reflect their commitment to quality and service.

Their first store was located in Manchester, Connecticut behind a tailor shop. It was there that they would make batches of wafers and ribbon candy from the sugar rations they received following the end of WWII. Soon after, they moved their base of operation to a horse barn. They converted the barn into two parts: a kitchen and a retail store.
Our History | Munson's Chocolates
We have a local candy shop that was founded a century ago, it was run by the same family for a century, but recently they sold it for a $1.7 million to the same guy that bought the local mall.

We also have a chain of stores that sells local made products made here in the state. As most well educated folks in the nation know, Mackinac Island, like San Francisco, Disney, Cedar Point, Hershey Pennsylvania, and a few other places, is a mecca of candy making.

Mom is kinda of a chocolate snob. The one she prefers is Lindt. It is the only one I find at the major stores that is also at the organic stores.
