Be more like Canada

Hey there,
Jim from Canada here. You Americans need to vote for Bernie. You might not agree with all his points, but he's truly your only option.

The United States is moving in a different direction than other democratic first world countries. The US citizens average life span is appalling among the G8, as well as life satisfaction and a slew of other metrics for how good your country is to live in.

And seriously, you guys are really embarrassing right now. Being Canadian can be fun. Foreigners wont have any idea we're not American unless we tell them (the asute foreigner will know straight away when we introduce ourselves like "Hi I'm James" instead of "Hi I'm James, would you like to see a picture of my handgun?")
But now we're forced to introduce ourselves like "Hi I'm James, I'm not American, I'm Canadian, sorry about my countries brother right now guys...."

If you wont adopt a more socialist, mixed market economy, like the rest of progressive human society, then please at least stop bragging about how awesome it is to get shafted by large insurance companies.

Now you might not agree with what Bernie says, but his heart is in the right place. You can either have that, or keep going down the shit slide. Seriously as a Canadian, who is statistically more educated and literate than you, those are your two options...
Our right wing is paralyzed by a binary, all-or-nothing mentality that has been drummed into them by talk radio and its resulting allies on the internet.

They simply can't comprehend shades of grey; they don't understand that an economy can have positive elements of both types of economies. To them, it can only be one or the other, that's it.

And their absolute refusal to see the obvious may be the primary driver of this increasing interest in, and openness to, socialism. Of course, they don't/won't see that, either.
.

I don't suppose the opposite could be true as well. The Democrats steady move left pushed people into voting for Trump. The evidence for this can be found in looking at the current crop of old Democrats that are running the show. Peolosi, Shiff, etc. have been around a while. They have wanted Socialism and a far left movement for their entire careers and now are giddy about the opportunity to push their policies. They didn't suddenly switch in the last 3 years. Much of this move left has nothing to do with actual policies and everything to do with a personal hatred for Trump, the man.

I can't think of one government endeavor that has been or is run efficiently. Can you?

All programs that are run by government, irrespective of the country are wasteful and inefficient. Increasing taxes or reducing services is frequently the way government maintain their programs.

Of course Canadian healthcare is the exception - efficient, self-sustaining, and loved by all Canadians........not really. Regarding Canadian healthcare:

"As we have one of the most expensive health-care systems in the world, the problem in Canada is not shortage of dollars but, instead, mismatches in how we allocate resources."

More doctors won't fix Canada's health-care woes

Corporations are sure as hell not run with perfect efficiency, either. And we saw what damage corporations can do in the run-up to the Meltdown.

So a civilized society makes choices in how it takes care of as many people as possible. Some inefficiencies are the price we pay.

This isn't the Old West. At some point we have to decide to find equilibrium between public and private enterprise. This isn't that complicated.

I agree completely that the hardcore Left is complicit in their own loss in 2016. Trump was/is the pushback to years, decades, generations of weaponized PC and Identity Politics.

What I want to avoid is this continuation of wild swings back and forth. But I don't think we have the capacity to deal with them any more, because we're so badly split into tribes.

So you mandate who is cared for and everyone else pays the price. Is there any limit to this generosity? Does the person seeking help have any responsibility in caring for themselves and working towards not being a burden on society? At present we subsidize a good deal of irresponsibility: bad financial planning, promiscuity, insufficient education or training as just a few areas that are more an individual's responsibility.

I understand and accept temporarily helping those struck by misfortune but I refuse to willingly contribute to someone's stupidity.

You're already doing it. People are getting paid for delivering health care services to people who can't afford them, and you and I are paying for it, no matter how inefficient or expensive it is (such as packed ER's).

I don't want Single Payer. The Democrats are LYING when they call Single Payer "Medicare for All", because the REAL Medicare system includes a strong and innovative free market component that could easily be expanded. Most people don't know that.

I'd increase THAT system to all, with some important (but by no means impossible) tweaks. It's just sitting there, working well, waiting to be scaled up. AND, since each plan is individual and portable, it would take a massive cost monkey off the backs of American employers.

ooooh ooooh Progressive LMAO

“Progressive” when observed objectively actually means backwards economic policies that spread poverty, amoral culture that spreads misery, high taxes, bad schools, high crime rates, anti-mainstream, anti-middle class, anti-Wasp, anti-suburbanite, anti-Christian, anti-Southerner, anti-Midwesterner, anti-American, anti-democracy, anti-sovereignty, incompetence government and incredible lying and corruption
We should deport our "Progressives" to Canada to teach them a lesson

Oh please do! Can you imagine, it's no coincidence the more Democratic areas in the United States have the best of the best Americans. Imagine if Canada all of a sudden got the best of the best from silicon valley alone. Never mind the most qualified engineers, doctors, scientists the world over.

I'm sure Canada could finally shave of that half a percent and be equal with Scandinavian countries in the area of life quality in a few months!

It wouldn't be long until what's left of the US degenerates and that leading military you got there stops working entirely, then we'd only have to worry about the heavily armed and quarrelsome backwards population. I'm sure by that time, and with unlimited government funding, of-course, the former US scientists we acquire would develop sophisticated weapons technology by which we could defend ourselves easily.

Within a decade, I believe Canada could then influence public perception enough down there to instill a Canadian puppet president instead of a Russian one.

I like your idea and agree with it.

Lol, California is a lib mecca and it's falling apart with illegals, debt, infrastructure, excessive taxation, freak shows, homeless. Hate to ruin your circus but those aren't the best of the best.

Canada has the luxury of not paying for a military because of the neighbor down south. The US doesn’t have that luxury.

Don't take this the wrong way, after all I really like you Canadians (well except for the douche bag FRENCH Canadians), you make great beer and even better hockey players BUT ...

If you keep posting shit like this, we Americans might decide it's better to just take all your land and natural resources and dump all the Canadians into the Bering Sea, you're only valuable to us if you keep your opinions to yourself and do what we say, don't get us riled, K, thanks.

And their absolute refusal to see the obvious - that it won't work next time either - is a function of their blind eagerness to install a nanny-state with cradle-grave misery for all (except the apparatchiks, or course).

Yes, too much central government is not a good thing. I'm glad to see you recognize that this exists along a continuum, that this is not binary. And that the key is finding an optimal point along that continuum with which we can all live.

And we agree that the two ends of the spectrum can be comically and transparently similar in their behaviors? That's also good to know.

Probably something to with the fact that the "spectrum" is a circle, the two "ends" aren't "similar" in their behaviors, they're exactly the same in their behaviors (selfish, authoritarian, counter-factual and immune to reason).

Well said....I have lot of friends that went to school in Canada and migrated. Great country and great people.
As you might know, most americans don't travel abroad and they were fed the lie that they live the best lives, but in reality, they work long hours, pay too much for health care, poor education even with a college degree, high crimes.
Trust me they wont believe you, they have been brainwashed...they even vote against their own interest.

Yes, this place is horrible, that’s why radheads beg to live here, wetbacks don’t travel through to get to the great white north and negroes all go home to Africa to live that awesome life they were deprived of. This place is terrible...PLEASE spread the world to the worlds trash. Thanks in advance

So this country for which you obviously have no respect has - according to you - "the most qualified engineers, doctors, scientists the world over" and you believe they stay here because the place is a dump? I suppose it wouldn't occur to one such as you that those people you so admire aren't all or even mostly "progressives" (pronounced "regressives"), right?

I gather from your posts you have no idea just how stupid you are. BTW ... it's obvious.

Oh quite the opposite. It's undeniable the positive effect the United States has had on the world, and continues to have. The first real democracy in human history, listen to Christopher Hitchens brag about the states and you'll capture how I feel.
It's just in recent years that there's been a real sharp down turn of core US ideologies in both the government and popular opinion.

Human societies adopt from one another, the things that made the US great, have been replicated in other places en-mass.

No I wouldn't argue this point - I would argue that there is an urgent need for deep introspection in your country. Swindlers and demagogues rule the land.

Black and White thinking must be avoided. This isn't a trash post about the US. Just an honest opinion. There can be both good and bad things about the states at the same time.

The people of Hong Kong are waving US flags as I type in their fight for personal liberty. There is no other flag in the history of man that would be appropriate for that right now.

Unfortunately the US isn't punishing China for their actions in HK, but simply for monetary reasons, and your president barely nods at the people fighting for their freedom.

I'm sure this would disgust many of your great presidents, and it should disgust Americans.

If only the people of HK understood they could be left abandoned by their symbol of freedom like the Kurds...
So now you are a big fan of the country you just hours earlier claimed to be "going down the shit slide" because we "wont adopt a more socialist" economy?

Yanno, many here in the States now legally smoke weed and then post here nonsensically.

Is marijuana legal in Canada by chance?
