BBB - another "big box" store going under!

But your example was one which shows that high prices aren't the death knell for a business.

I'm not sure that's what you really intended...
I think one point seems to be, if you’re going to be high end, know your market and don’t over expand into areas where price is an issue.

But that's the thing: If you're "high end" then you're playing in a market where price is rarely an issue...

I think you grossly understate the impact...

A lot of people have turned away from Amazon, because of the lack of quality products.
Most of their items are "made in China" which a lot of people are turning away from.
There's also tons of horror stories online about shoppers ordering something on Amazon and not getting what they ordered, and refused a return or refund.

Sure they still make a lot of money, but their greed has cost them.

Enough to put them out of business?? More than likely not, but they continue to allow any scammer or fraud to sell on their site.

Yeah, not so much.

Look at the revenue table on their Wiki page. It shows constant growth from Day 1:

The point is..............I've seen many businesses think they can be a Needless Markup or DKNY or Gucci or any of these niche stores and charge heinously outrageous prices at "big box" stores for the general public. THAT does not work. I've seen all these types of businesses and stores last a few years and disappear. They open these stores specifically for greed, and nothing else.

These types of stores rarely make it.

As an EXAMPLE of one that did make it............

Bath and Bodyworks was created AS a niche market business, with VERY overpriced goods. Yet they became a worldwide business with physical stores AND an online presence. They did their homework. Regardless of overpriced soap and skin lotions, they succeeded and still make money by NOT over expanding or over complicating what they are doing. They knew when to say "stop" with their corporate greed. And it's worked for them.....................so far.

I'm sure thats worldwide, as they continue to expand their online presence.
Not within any certain area or country.

Also, they launched PHYSICAL stores some years ago. I'm sure that's factored into it as well.

Once all this COVID shit becomes "normal" and nobody cares anymore..........I'm sure their online purchase numbers will fall a bit, with the exception of those countries that continue lockdowns.

I'm still trying to get past the fact that you're trying to compare Neiman Marcus to Bed, Bath & Beyond.

BB&B has been in business for over 50 years. Like many other businesses, they felt the negative impacts of the pandemic...

Of course it's worldwide. Why wouldn't it be?

I can't speak for Jeff Bezos but, when my accountants look at the numbers for my businesses, they looks at all of the numbers...

Their numbers are crushing. Personally, I think it'll be a long, long time before Amazon's a money loser...

I wasn't comparing NM to BBB, I was stating that Linens N Things went under because THEY were charging prices like NM and DKNY were. Nothing to do with BBB.

Once another online marketplace shows up and does a better job of it than they are doing, their numbers will start to fall.

Bezo's got filthy rich and then became complacent. The start of the fall of an empire.......even if it takes a while.

During economic downturns businesses like this are always going to suffer. When you’re paying for necessities bed and bath are often neglected, while beyond you can forget. Too large stores, of course, don’t help.
Thanks Biden.

He’s not the one that screwed up the pandemic response by giving mixed signals, like going warp speed on the vaccine and then downplaying its importance when it was available.
good will is still going strong no high end but have fun shopping without blowing your husbands paycheck
