with all due respect to guitarists out front, there's always a bassist in the rhythm section that makes you shine ......

I'll start here (oldie)>>>Mr Rob Grill.....

If you don't have someone slapping the wood, the entire song falls apart.

The bass players for The Police and Pink Floyd were pretty funky. I'm a bit ashamed that I don't know who they are

Sting for the Police, Roger Waters for Pink Floyd.

Thunder fingers for the win from The Who.

you're preachin' to choir Dark one, rhythm is a symbiont sentient thang....~S~
I've been asked before and the one song I always point to as an example of just how necessary the Bassist is, is the song, "I still haven't found what I was looking for", by U2. You can hear, prominately, the bass.

The first band that I thought of when I saw this chat is Diamond Rio. The bass player is the first band member to be shown in this video from them and he is the member of the band who will make you laugh due to his great sense of humor. :) :) :)

God bless you and each past and present member always!!!

Holly

P.S. The drummer and mandolin player retired in 2022.

It's hard to not mention Entwistle when discussing who is the best. I don't think Jack Bruce gets enough credit.

I was able to get my daughter (that plays bass) to see Leland Sklar and Jack Cassidy (who has one of the most memorable bass lines ever. .

The real problem is, the bassist is so important to any good music, and there are so many world class bassists out there, that it is impossible to name a favorite.

What can be said is that no music happens without one.

Unless your into Gothic Pan Flute music that is.

This cat has been a huge influence on my own bass playing style. Verdine White was classically trained by CSO Bassist Radi Velah and also learned Electric Bass by Chess Records session bassist and Phoenix Horns trombonist Louis Satterfield. 'Dine, along with his brother Maurice, was also one of the founding members of the greatest R&B group around, Earth, Wind, & Fire
