TOPEKA, KAN. — A top Senate leader and at least 10 other conservative Kansas legislators have lost their seats as moderate Republicans made GOP primary races a referendum on education funding and the state's persistent budget woes.

Senate Majority Leader Terry Bruce was among the lawmakers ousted amid a backlash against Republican Gov. Sam Brownback and his allies.

The voting occurred against the backdrop not only of the state's fiscal woes but ongoing legal and political disputes over funding for public schools. The state Supreme Court could rule by the end of the year on whether the Legislature is shorting schools on their state aid by hundreds of millions of dollars a year.

Tim Huelskamp, Anti-Establishment House Republican, Loses Primary in Kansas

Representative Tim Huelskamp, a member of the hard-line conservativeFreedom Caucus, lost to a political newcomer on Tuesday in the Republican primary for his Kansas district.

Mr. Huelskamp, who was elected to Congress in 2010 and quickly earned a reputation for frustrating Republican leaders, was defeated by Roger Marshall, an obstetrician from Great Bend, in the primary for the First Congressional District, which covers western Kansas and much of the state’s center.

Hhaha, The dumb fucks attempted to fuck the people out of education and every other public service. Hopefully this is a start of the people realizing that loserterinism is bad shit and throwing them out!

Yeah pouring millions into an education system that's systematically broken and worthless makes all the sense in the world. All one needs to do is look at the caliber of student the public education system is turning out and it's easy to see changes have to be made

Brownback was the Tea Party darling, elected to enact all the Tea Party issues, and he did. It is a disaster that should be studied. Austerity is not a bad thing, but that too should be done in moderation, and a look at what happened in Kansas could be good for the nation.

You have to trim the fat when you cut down the feed. Too many are feeding off the public trough.

True, iceweasel, trim the fat, but you still gotta eat, you can't cut it off completely. When a family goes on an austerity budget, that doesn't mean they buy nothing until all bills are paid off. They trim the fat by not getting the new car or new curtains or hire the lawn mowed instead of doing it yourself, but you can't stop spending on necessities. I don't know how much Kansas spends on the 'public trough', especially for children, so I can't make any decisions for how Kansas should spend. But something went wrong with the Grand Plan of the Tea Party and an objective look at the Kansas options could help everyone. Maybe it just needs a tweak.

It's very difficult, especially politically, to cut back on entitlements in this country. I don't know the details of the budget either but you are somehow dead set on blaming the TEA party so your posts scream smear job.

I blame the Tea Party because Brownback won his job on the Tea Party platform of austerity and was able to put that platform in place in his State. Austerity isn't bad, but evidently some programs weren't thought out carefully and it backfired. I reiterate, study objectively what went wrong, just don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Blaming the TEA party is stupid. It's a movement, not a political party, for one. And secondly just because fiscal conservativism isn't or can't be done well at this point doesn't make it a bad idea.

Explain the success of California then. How many billions in the hole are they now?
