Reddit has launched a challenge in Australia's highest court against the nation's landmark social media ban for children.

The online forum is among 10 social media platforms which must bar Australians aged under 16 from having accounts, under a new law which began on Wednesday.

The ban, which is being watched closely around the world, was justified by campaigners and the government as necessary to protect children from harmful content and algorithms.

Reddit is complying with the ban, but in its case will argue that the policy has serious implications for privacy and political rights. It is the second such legal challenge, with two Australian teens also awaiting a High Court hearing
.

Reddit are unhappy.

Do you support such a social media ban?

You bet I do.

I frankly never thought about it before but yeah, there is much else we don't let minors do before 18 like smoke and drink and drive, so why should children be on certain social media exposed to all of the twisted perverse crap that probably goes on there. USMB is that rare calm in the storm place to be to get away from it all once you put about 100-150 people here on Ignore to block their warped mental disabilities.

Am not sure what they imagine they are protecting Aussie kids from ?
They all grow up into species caricatures .

Have you ever met an adult OZ with whom you can have an intelligent conversation ?
And as for their sad attempts to speak Engliush nicely --- disastrous .

Australia's great social experiments started with women's enfranchisement in 1901. The new measure could soon become a global standard. I'm sick and tired of young folks who walk around with cellphones, while playing games or watching TikTok videos. But it's disadvantageous for Aussie kids living in the outback, who could be completely disconnected from the outside world.

For Breanna's mum Megan Easton, the ban is a mixed blessing. While she agrees kids need to be protected, she remembers her own childhood on a cattle station was far more isolating.

"We did feel very behind the other children at school because we had a somewhat sheltered life."

Breanna, her older sister Olivia and younger brother Jacob all did remote classes for children in the outback who are unable to attend a physical school.

For senior grades though, boarding school is the only option for a good education. So from the age of 11 or 12, the siblings have lived six hours away from home during term-time.

"We might be incredibly geographically isolated but we're not digitally illiterate and we have taken great measures in our family to make sure that we educate our children appropriately for the world ahead of them," Ms Easton says. "I do think that it is a bit of government overstepping."

LOL
This is a joke, right?
Surely it is.

The govt is trying to protect children from online bullying-suicide.
Trying also to protect them from predators online. I remember a case in Britain where a girl was lured to a meeting with someone she thought was a boy. The someone carved a Swastika into her face.
Cases have been published in the media where parents are giving 10 yr olds etc devices connected to the internet with no restrictions to use in their bedrooms...to keep them amused.
Easy parenting is not always the best kind.

Of course it is hard banter about Ozzers although unfortunately there is more than a little truth in my scathing comment .

Naturally I am well aware of the Government's thinking, though as a Psychology Graduate and Post Graduate I have major reservations about the completeness of their analysis and the likely effects of implementing their conclusions .

I would handle their situation very differently but that is somewhat academic . ,

Young Ozzer adults are just, one of many poorly educated Sheeple tribes on our dying planet ---- which must delight Deep State with its twin objectives of manipulation and control .

OMG, I have a friend. He's in his 50's and I see social media and podcasts has turned him into a raging MAGA asshole. Depressed. He's sad about a guy he knew online who died. OMG, my mother died and I'm over it. He met some guy online that he facetimed with every day for a few years and that guy died and now, a few years later, he says he's still fucked up from that? Weirdo!!!

Yesterday he send me a 2 hour video on Knights Templar. First thing the link asked me to sign up. I told him I'm not signing up just to watch a video. Then he sends me the video where I don't have to sign up. It's about the Knights Templar. When I tell him I'm not interested in that subject and I say "you have too much time on your hands if you can listen to a 2 hour video about knights templar" and he lost his mind.

Social media is ******* up adults. So yea, you should have to wait till 16 before you join social media, tiktok, snapchat or anything online.

Apart from the odd forum, I'm not on any kind of social media. Friends, family, and customer's either have to phone or text me.

It's nothing but full of drama and arseholes.

My friend also said "everyone listens to podcasts sealybobo" and I texted him back "yea, and the world is going to shit too".

Data from 2016-2018 indicates that nearly 1 in 3 (approx. 30.9%) US men aged 18 to 24 reported having no sexual activity in the past year, an increase from about 19% in 2000-2002. This trend, often called a "sexual recession," is driven by factors such as delayed marriage, economic pressures, increased time spent online, and lower testosterone levels.

“The decreases are not easily explained by a single shift, such as health status, technology, access to pornography or stress,” Herbenick said. “There are likely multiple reasons for these changes in sexual expression, and we need more research to understand how these changes may be related to changes in relationships, happiness and overall well-being.”

How about ME TOO movement? How about the liberal shit they teach young women in college like all men are rapists or all whites are racist?
