"Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'"- Isaac Asimov

How accurate is this quote today? How many people are unread, uninformed, uncurious and so easily able to just mirror without any real research skills, self reflection or thought? In fact, the ability to express a thought is today even dismissed. To break down complex problems and identify honest solutions is a critical skill for a thriving society.

We are becoming more and more like zombies everyday. Media has played a major role in this unsavoury outcome. Television in general really. The distractions on the internet as well I suppose. We are all guilty of this of course, but I would argue it is a matter of degrees.

Each nation has their own challenges, we need a resurgence of the intellectuals, people willing to analyze truth, not disguise it. To not speak it is cowardly.

I can tell you precisely some of the major issues with Canada system. The apologists and drones on here (and other places) who so easily defend and lie, even as they themselves know it isn't true; is just one small example of this. It is how a nation declines into the abyss and it will be achieved most certainly. Many such apologists, often for their own benefit of course; exist in America and Europe as well.

Is it too much to ask for people to be honest? To reward competence?

The quote is entirely accurate, it crosses all barriers, cultural, racial, political, and all age groups.

What are your views of Musk?

I think he is such an "intellectual mind" of our current times. Not a politician, for sure, but so impactful IMO.
